I just read it 2 days ago. I'm seeing it this Thursday. And SurgePox, I keep hearing the same thing from everyone- if you've read the book, it's amazing. If you haven't, it's stupid and terrible.

As to the Joker question, I think out of every hero ever made, Rorshach is the most perfectly suited to put him out of commission. He could get inside his head, actually map out his insanity, and wouldn't be afraid to try anything to stop him.

Maybe YOU don't.

These two characters aren't supposed to be ultraviolent criminal death machines. They were the most humane of all of the "Watchmen", so a fight scene like that doesn't fit anywhere.
But I feel stupid about complaining about a movie which is certainly outstanding. The pros outweigh the cons.

And Gorblax, that isn't what I've heard. A lot of people I know liked the movie, even if they didn't read the book.

Where I am, people aren't even talking about it. I don't think I've heard one mentioning of it outside of the internets or AOTS (TV show).

Ok, I saw th opening screening at 12:01 am on Friday and never read the comic. And......

IT WAS FREAKING AMAZING

I loved how it really wasn't the whole "Save the World" Theme really. That seemed more of a backdrop used to provide a reason for the Watchmen to exist.

As far as who's better, It's a tie because both the grease and the pencil were too damn awesome.

Favourite character's is the Comedian and Rorshach because they're both such badass's.

Then, no offense, but you missed the point. This isn't necessarily your fault -- the movie doesn't nail this stuff 100% of the time. But Watchmen is concerned with the psychology of characters trying to operate in a world on the brink and its the sense of paranoia of impending doom. It's a work of literary density. It's NOT a save the world superhero adventure, although it ironically resembles one toward its final act.

This stood out more when the comic was written. By now we've had twenty years of comics and genre and pulp pieces that have been inspired by Watchmen and given their characters interesting internal conflicts. But Watchmen still did it first, and did it better.

Naw dude, naw. I got all that. I just didn't think they did it very well.

Dan and Laurie weren't fucked up like Rorschach, but they weren't saints either. Dudes wanted to kill them. They killed one or two out of the group in the struggle. That's how the Watchmen heroes work -- the whole idea is that superheroes helped fuck up society. Not to mention the purpose of that fight was to act as a sexual reawakening for them, and Watchmen was always happy to put brutality and sex hand in hand.

I'm not saying it wasn't gratuitous at all, but do you really think the comic versions of Dan or Laurie never killed a dude in self defense?

Agreed. It's just not their style, or Rorschach's, for that matter.

Night Owl does the thing where you shove a dude's nose into his brain. Although he could have just been breaking said nose. I'm not saying the scene isn't more violent than the source, but I'm saying it played off the book's existing themes.

I have a slight issue with this. I don't think Rorshach would psychoanalyze the Joker so much as just bash his face in and be done with it.

My only qualm about the movie is the theatres full of 13-year-olds expecting to see X-Men, but other than that, awesomeness in the degree of epic.

Saw it in IMAX on Sunday in a packed theatre. Intense and awesome.
And I <3 Rorschach. I think he and the Joker could be friends. Razz

So...you think you could sneak in a Watchmen reference in an episode of TWBB? You already have Silence of the Lambs, Fight Club and Return of the King, so why not?

Brawl is sort of in itself a Watchmen reference. But I'm sure we will work in something specific.

Although the only one of those you named that was intentional was Silence of the Lambs (obviously). Pokemonz' scene was a cock fight... the scene with PT was what it was. I didn't even remember that scene existed in RotK until someone brought it up!
