The Sports Thread

Post  JGH27 on Sun Aug 30, 2009 10:40 pm

Well I noticed there isn't one yet, but figured I'd create one. Not sure how well this'll be received but here it is anyways.

Basically anything sports related goes here lol

So to start off I went to a hockey game tonight between the Peterborough Petes and the Oshawa Generals (oldest rivalry in the OHL, it's like the Toronto/Montreal rivalry). It was the first exhibition game of the 2009-2010 season. We (Oshawa) won 6-4. Sadly we switch goalies mid game in exhibition games and our back up let in all 4 goals. Weak goals at that. Our team this year lacks a strong offence and won't be scoring a lot like the last few years but our coach is finally focusing on defence lol.

*OHL (Ontario Hockey League) is apart of the CHL (Canadian Hockey League) which consists of the WHL (Western Hockey League) and QMJHL (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) which is the last step before the NHL/AHL.

I love sports, don't be so negative, jwb.

I'm not really watching anything as of late though, and I'm not so much into hockey, sorry JGH. But a couple weekends ago, i was watching some games for the little league World Series on ESPN and I came to the conclusion that those games are more fun to watch because there's more scoring, and more errors by the players. Also, I might be one of the few people you'll know that will enjoy watching a full game of Soccer on TV. Sure it's more fun to play (was a goalie for the 10 or more years I played), but I like watching it too, even if there's so little scoring. The good thing about soccer is, since there are no commercials during the halves, you basically know when the game will end, when another sport like football has so many damn commercials, which kinda ironically has the best ones when the Superbowl comes.

I'm excited though for the World Cup in 2010.

Unfortunately, I haven't found a sport I'm good at yet, but I do enjoy badminton and a couple of others sometimes. Despite being British, I can't stand Soccer/Football.

No worries I figured hockey would be lower on the totem pole lol.

Baseball is another sport I like watching but find it hard to sit through an entire game. As for soccer, never really got into watching it. Lately UFC catching my attention more and more again. I prefer playing sports and baseball, badminton, (soon to be volleyball) and road hockey are my favourites thusfar. As for little league smash, never really saw anything major like that up here. As far as tv coverage and stuff.

Football I don't even understand enough to watch a game lol

Awww, Brazil is even one of the teams I'm rooting for in the World Cup. The other two are USA, even though they have a snowball's chance at winning, and Spain because Spain is awesome.

Football has so many rules and technicalities, it's ridiculous. You might be able to find some coverage on some sports channel.

Canada is on it's way to it's 9th Gold Medal game on Tuesday for the IIHF World Juniors in hockey. If we win, it'll be our 6th gold straight. We play the winner of USA/Sweden.

I recently got a big-screen Hi-def TV. I didn't use to like Football until I saw it on my new TV.

Now I love it.

Unfourtunately, I'm originally from the California area so my favourite teams are the 49ers and the Oakland Raiders.

They... kinda suck.

But since I now live in Louisville I also like the Colts and they've been doing amazing.

That is all.

Psh, WATCHING sports. Real men play sports. And by "play sports" I mean "Run really fast".
I run XC/track (XC or cross country is longer and on trails in the woods, track is shorter distance and on a track). I am currently one of the top 50 High school runners In New York City.

I used to fence in high school, but I've kind of stopped that. I would love to get back into it.

I'd like to watch this if USA beats Sweden. Not much of a hokey fan, but seeing highlights of games are cool cause they can make some amazing plays.

San Diego Chargers fan for football. I'm indifferent to the 49ers, use to like the Raiders at one time.

Still can't wait for the upcoming World Cup in South Africa. Also, I actually like how the mascot looks this time.

sounds like fun sports..... unfortunately Holland has a single obsession called soccer and I bloody hate soccer. I played waterpolo for 9 years though. Kinda wanna check out tennis or american football now, or check out salsa dancing. I am not sure wether Id do that last one for fun, or in attempt to hook up with some hot girls, but a combination of both would be nice.

2 hours until Canada/USA for the Gold. We're looking to make this 6 in a row, last time we lost the Gold medal game was 2004 to the US.

Currently watching Sweden beating the Swiss 10-4

EDIT: 11-4 now lol
