YES! Man, I know too many people in Baltimore to be anything but ecstatic right now. That, and the fact that I won a bet.

Re: The Sports Thread
Given that I liked both sides here I'd have totally rooted for the comeback, but honestly, after that power outage, I really didn't want to see it happen; having a team win because an incident like that killed the other side's momentum is... well... it's really unfortunate.
Either way, what a game. Seems these playoffs were nothing more than repeated comebacks
Also, won all my family's bets. AWWWWW YEAH.

Re: The Sports Thread
After the very nice explanation that was illustrated in MS Paint last night and then actually watching the game, I think I now almost understand the rules of American football.
I'm not really that interested in sports. I just showed up because there was free pizza.
I also found it rather amusing how almost everyone there was rooting for the 49ers except one guy who was rooting for the Ravens just to be different. Seriously, it went something like this:
Him: Who are you guys rooting for?
Everyone else: 49ers!
Him: Okay, then I'm rooting for the Ravens.

So the chikenhawks... sorry, SEAhawks won the NFC championship.
I've heard a lot about the 12th Man, but no one mentioned the others because CLEARLY the refs are on the Seahawks roster.
Bring back the replacement refs, at least they were honest in their incompetency.

You can say whatever you want about that game, but I'm going to ignore it, because I'm too busy cheering right now.
SEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAAWKS!
But seriously, awful, awful officiating. I don't know who let Gene Selatore ref a playoff game, let alone the championship game.

Being a camera man between the benches of any sport can be a good time. Yesterdays hockey game I shot was full of intensity and so much foul language that the Producer made the director get off my camera shot at the end after about 30 seconds of reading lips that said "Ya, you f***ing p***ies, step on the f***ing ice and shut me the f*** up you c***sucking b****!" and language like that all game. Now, I'm usually pretty good at keeping a straight face during games but I was legit lol the whole damn time!

Somehow pulled my hamstring this morning. Go to my game and go up 3-0 in first period, I come up with some huge saves. Second period goes 4-1 then it all went down hill. 9-4 final, the last goal coming after I was pulled. My goals against average is shit right now.

There's a few games of footie kicking off in Brazil later this week. Are you excited? You better bloody be.
(I totally didn't get the joke at 3:00 when I was little btw)
So what's your group like? How do you fancy your country's chances? Are Argentina a bunch of cheating bastards? (course they are)

FUCK YEAH, AMERICA'S GOING TO KICK ASS AT SOCCER AND BEAT ALL THE COUNTRIES THAT CALL IT THE WRONG NAME BECAUSE FREEDOM!
Real talk, though, being in the same group as Portugal, Germany and Ghana is going to make it a bitch. We match up fairly well against Portugal, but overall, it'll take some luck to make it out.

If it makes you feel any better Minby we're in the same group as Uruguay, Costa Rica and Italy. Countries that are all used to playing in the heat.
I think we're going to get through the qualifiers, but I doubt we'll get any further than the quarter final

I didn't know DRTJR worked as a news reporter.
England vs Uruguay has just kicked off. This is a crucial match, since if we lose we're more than likely not going to qualify. C'mon guys, you can do it!

Disappointed England lost but plenty of other great games out here. The US win over Ghana was spectacular and well deserved - and I'm actually really impressed with the Mexico-Brazil draw. If Mexico survives to the round of 16 they'll be fun to watch.

Re: The Sports Thread
Well, that's it, England are out. Even though we lost our first two games we could have still qualified, but it ain't happening. Two losses and a draw, what an absolutely pisspoor showing. I think I could defend better than that. That Uruguay match was shocking, we should have easily got a draw at the very least.
This has really highlighted the problem with English football; it's become too commercialised and club-centric. Footballers earn shocking wages and become more concerned about pleasing the club than playing a good game. Fans demand immediate results, so clubs buy expensive foreign players who can deliver, meaning that when the World Cup comes around we're absolutely fucked when it comes to our own players since they can't kick a ball about on an international level.
Well hey, Wimbledon is about to begin. Anyone for tennis then?

Total upset, I can't believe the US and Switzerland both got knocked out in the 16th round. I really thought both of them would get through to the quarter finals, shocking.
My money's on the Netherlands and Brazil reaching the finals now, though there's still a chance Germany will get through...

Dat Germany vs Brazil match. That wasn't even a game of football, that was an utter demolition. Good grief, was anyone expecting a result like that? The Brazilians certainly weren't.
Netherlands vs Argentina has just kicked off, 12 minutes in an still nil nil. Here's hoping the Dutchies get through!

Re: The Sports Thread
San Francisco Giants are in the MLB playoffs again for the third time in the last five years. They won the World Series (which is a kinda inaptly named since MLB only involves USA and Canada (kinda), but eh) in 2010 and 2012 so here's to another in 2014!
I'm a little disappointed that The A's didn't make it to the playoffs only because it would have been cool to see half of the teams in the playoffs from California, but oh well. The Wildcard game between them and KC was one of the best games I got to see (the last 30 min of) at least.

Re: The Sports Thread
Holy necro post Batman, bumping this thread because shit is going DOWN in English football (soccer).
My team is Leicester City (the Foxes). We're a bit shit really, and the glory days are long over. Or so we thought. If the Foxes win today's match against Man United, they've won the Premier League, which is THE major trophy in English football (I guess the US equivalent would be the Super Bowl? I dunno). But why is this such a massive thing? Because this season Leicester have gone from absolutely nothing to the verge of champions. At the start of the season the odds of them winning were 5000/1, and they've proven everyone wrong by powering their way to the top of the league. It's the first time in English football history (which is what, 200 years?) this has ever happened. Needless to say, the entire county is on edge today.
It's not just Leicester fans though, the entire country is rooting for them to win, and not just because they were the underdogs. Their success has highlighted the major problems in English football. The winners get a big cash prize to spend on better players, meaning the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. For the higher clubs it's also become about the profits rather than the Beautiful Game. Recently there was a walkout of several thousand Liverpool supporters to protest about the cost of season tickets. The fact Leicester are now at the top thanks to their dedication and passion- rather than overpaid players- is seen by many as getting back to the heart and soul of football. If they win, it's proven to fans that passion is more important than profits, and really their success has just highlighted the corruption and corpulence of the larger, richer clubs (most of which have made awful performances this season and don't stand a chance anymore).
Oh man, this is exciting. I'm really hoping we win today. BLUE ARMY BLUE ARMY.
