What's in a Name?

Post  Eiron on Fri Oct 24, 2008 11:03 am

Basically, this thread is here for those who want to share anything about why they chose the name they did for this forum. Obviously, if the name was derived from your real name, your reasoning shouldn't be shared. Also, some names...are kinda self explanatory. cough*smashbro*cough but who knows, maybe its really because of crazy cool logic that I missed.

I'll use my name as an example: Good ol' wikipedia describes an eiron as: "In Greek drama, the eiron (ειρων, self-deprecator)[1] was a comedic character who succeeded by bringing his braggart opponent, the alazon, down by making himself seem like less than he actually was."

So, I'm subtly saying I'm a sneaky clever guy. Very Happy

This username combined the word "gaia" with some letters of my last name. =O

My other typical username, Frozen Memories, is the name of a song made by the artist that also helped with the Kill Bill soundtrack. However, I neither remember his name, nor the album the song was on. ;-;

If you switch around the letters in my name, it spells out "Group Sex"

That is all.

Resisting urge to lock... Na. I've been using the name smashbro (no cap on s!) since I joined my first forum, which was NOT a Smash Bros. forum, btw. At the time, however, I was really into Melee and there wasn't another smash brother (how I got my e-mail address), so I went with smashbro, plain and simple. Since then, I've been going by the name of smashbro. I know it's not original as there are many a smash bros and variations, so yeah...

SurgePox, I wouldn't think of it.
Eiron, there are a lot of people that still do it, I just don't feel like being an ass and correcting them in the forums. But this thread is different.

It was intentionally supposed to not be noticeable, just a little secret behind a somewhat generic sounding online name.

Generic? I've never seen anything remotely similar. Well, I think I've seen a few Surge's, and I think I've seen a Pox, but never before have I seen someone so bold as to put them together.

smashbro, I've noticed a trend lately of me missing really obvious and important stuff. Not a good sign, considering the name I picked.

Re: What's in a Name?

Post  Weldar on Sat Oct 25, 2008 9:24 pm

My name, if you played Banjo Tooie you'll recoginse it since he is one of the bosses. But I actually rather dislike that boss, so why choose it? Well Weldar is a totally bitch to find and on my replay of Banjo Tooie I forgot where he was. I searched for a walkthrough and found some forums. When I jioned in the Banjo Tooie forums I decided to go with a Banjo Tooie related name, and liked the idea of a boss. So I thought why not Weldar since he brought me here. The only other name I have ever used is Vacuumar. Vacuumar is a play on Weldar, since he is often mistaken for a vacuum cleaner rather than a Weldaing torch it has become a bit of a joke in some places and I'll say things like I'm not a Vacuum and it's Weldar noty Vacuumar

He's the boss at Grunty Industries, but is a total bitch to reach so I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't reach him. Opening the door to his lair utilizes both the Wumba transformation and Mumbo spell, and has a time limit.

Re: What's in a Name?

Post  Relmitos on Sun Oct 26, 2008 10:28 pm

My name choice is fairly easy to understand, I suppose. Ever since the Dreamcast version of it, I've been a big fan of the Phantasy Star Online series. I picked up the GC version of it, and when episode 3 came out, I had to pick it up. Yeah, alright, its the cardgame, yea I know. But, in it you pick a deck leader basically, and each one has different abilities. Relmitos is the deck leader I use, mostly because I believe he's the strongest hunter side deck leader, if you play him right. He's got this weird attack power/magic power swap ability, which simply means that after every attack, the value's will swap. and they are 3 and 0, so if you physical you get the +3, but if you physical again, you'll get +0. He's good if you do it right, though.

He's also my avatar, if your wondering what he looks like
