What's not to understand?

King of the cosmos + Drunker Bender = You collecting trash from Earth.

That sounds like a perfectly logical train of thought to me.

6 is my fave. But for 8 vs 7, I'd have to go with 7....just seems more.....epic IMO.....but hey, if you like 8, stay strong! Razz

I'm with you, I like VIII better than VII, though for me it was because the visual/audio was much better than in VIII than VII.

Personally I think that all of their personally traits are spot on, few seem to realize that all of the main characters except for Rinoa, have been trained from the age of eight to be hardened killers. Plus the ones that went to balamb all pretty much had no memory of their childhoods, all they knew was killing. This makes their personalities make sense to me. They all turned towards a certain aspect that allowed them to cope with the world around them.

The love storyline fits as well considering they are eighteen/nineteen and because of their past none of them really had fallen in love before. Every teenager makes mistakes, and the mistakes he made were common, just in this world the mistakes were amplified due to the freaky shit going on around them.

As for the sorceress storyline, i liked that because it made me think. I love games with story lines that make me do that. VII was similar in that it made me think but not the same way as VIII did.

Gameplay I agree allow the use of magic w/o losing stats and it'd be great, and get rid of the monsters leveling with you, I hated that. I liked materia as well until it became to much of a hassle to pick and choose and make the team you wanted when you had all the materia, especially if you got bored like I did and ended up making copies of all the materia so I could have the exact same super layout for everyone.

I'm on the fence for unique characterization, I think FFIV left a bad taste in my mouth on that one. Everytime I had a character I liked they disappeared or changed classes Suspect, now I can't really trust games that force me to have player X be a healer cause they are the only one who will learn white magic beyond cure. The only think I think I could like about characterization would be similar to maybe FFX's system, you can stay in this job area but if you take the time and effort you can make them be able to use these spells abilities as well.

Hmm have I missed anything?

Oh right the spaceship, The spaceship was already there, it was either attached to the spacestation that they had both just jumped out of or it was in the general area, so it didn't seem like to much of a stretch that it would be there when they needed it, improbable yes, but not to the level that it is in HHGTTG.

OK... I don't know if you've heard about this guy named Spoony, but he makes a better argument than me.

Watch those, ignore the bad acting, and know that he and I both love the FF series, yet still kinda dislike VIII.

Personally I dislike critics in general. Critics are normally so focused on TRYING their best to find every single thing that is wrong with a game/movie/etc. And by doing this, they miss everything that is great about a game. On another note, many people search and see what the critics say about a game/movie/etc. before they even play/see it themselves. And by doing so it corrupts their own judgement before they even pop the disc in. Not saying that you are that kind of person by any means. I'm just saying in general.

What I am saying is that posting a link to another guy's opinion who spends his time finding flaws all day is kind of on the pointless side...

In my opinion

Meehhhh.... See, it's not that I don't form my own opinions, or play things on my own... It's just that I had watched this review and found myself agreeing with a lot of what he was saying.

See, I never really felt that FFVIII really matched the tone of any other Final Fantasy game. It's... I dunno, too serious. I mean, even in VII they had jokes like the date on the Golden Saucer and Cloud being forced to cross-dress. Sure, it could be kinda funny at times with Zell and Selphie, but not often. And with all the guns, space stuff, and time travel/collapse, I think a better title would have been "Final Sci-fi".

I still love it, just not as much as any other FF (At least not the numerical ones. I could do without Crystal Chronicals.)

Irvine was funny as hell to me. I mean....always trying to get with Selphie and selphie not having a clue what he is trying to do....leaving porn mags to help squall score with Rinoa lol

quistis thinking zell was gay because his room was clean.

Lots of humor in VIII

The only thing I found sci fi about VIII was the ragnarock scenerio

My problem with people's criticism of VII is that they're allowing the hype itself to get overhyped. A game isn't less amazing because it gets a lot of attention; it's still the same game it was when it first came out, and is still just as good, no matter how popular it gets. It really disappoints me that people allow the (well-deserved, imho) hype over VII ruin their gaming experience for them before they even play the game. Stop being such whiners! Whether other people like or hate a game shouldn't affect your individual gaming experiences. It only matters how you feel when you play it.

FFVIII evokes a strong sense of warmandfuzzy nostalgia in me, but the battle system turned me off a little, if only because I felt I could never use my magic once I had it junctioned to armor/attack etc. It made characters like Rinoa (who was my main battler along with Zell the very first time I played through) a lot harder to use at the higher levels. I didn't like knowing there were going to be real-time consequences to using my spells, and I didn't like being forced to spam GFs to make up for the elemental deficit if I didn't. (But to that, matching the GFs with the characters according to personality was a blast.)

See, I'm exactly the same way, but with the titles reveresed. Not that the CCs are BAD.... but yeah....

As for that review, I (Being the eternal optimist that I am) think that the review was based on different tastes than my own. Most people now are looking for another KoToR game, or a new Fallout 3 or Bioshock or something. That's how they see RPGs. I still see RPGs as a turn-based, plot oriented game with levels and stats. It could be the reviewer wasn't a FF fan or an RPG fan and that's what I'll assume until proven to me otherwise.

Because I'm an optimist and I'm holding out hope that FFXIII can still be good.

OK, granted. But when I say Plot oriented, I mean the focus of the game is the plot. I think that the FFs rely much more on plot than the other games I've listed (Though they rely on it pretty heavily too) so in MY mind it seems as if, I dunno, like FFs are MORE RPGish than the others.

Of course, that's 100% opinion which never seems to make much sense anyway.

lol yeah I saw that too about the motorcycle. And I heard that the game was very linear and people are hating it for that... but hell, FFX was linear as hell too and that is in my top favorites. So We'll see in March.

I'm actually kinda excited that it's linear. I'm getting SICK of open-world gameplay. I know I'm probably alone on that one, but I don't care. For some reason linear gameplay has been shunned. If someone here can tell me why Open-world is better than linear WITHOUT stating thier opinions (ie. tell me an actual concrete fact) then I'll stop whining.

Personally I like a game that is mainly linear but has room for exploration. Everybody says that the first zelda is too open ended. I say that it is too an extent. I like games that allow me to explore but have a difficulty that keeps you in the area that they want you to be at. If you play the first zelda you can access ganon's cave buy buying or finding some bombs, but good luck surviving in there lol.

My friend gave me Fallout 3 recently and I can't stand it because of how open it is. But I don't want to get into that. That's a whole new subject lol.

So uh... Speaking of Final Fantasy...

I found a really good 'Fan Game' that plays a lot like an Online FFIV, and it's actually good for a Byond game(there's a lot of crap on there :/), heck, it's the only one i actually like.

I've got a few ScreenShots if you want to see them, but it's mostly just stuff about crap.

The Pictures themselves are huge and i don't wanna pic spam so I'll just link em. =p

Now, at this point you might be wondering "Where are all the FFIV character's/classes?".
Well, when you beat the game(I.E.:Kill Archi), you get to choose two new classes for a NewGame++.

You can also make your own sprite(read:Icon) after you beat Zemus/Zeromus and use it for that character. :3
