Sadly, yes. And some people that DOES have an internet connection sometimes have a crappy one.

So yeah, Ubisoft is still screwing people around.

Technically, they're not screwing people (Ok, maybe sometihing like the 3% of internet-less PC gamers), they are saving themselves from being screwed by curbing piracy. If you ask me, it's smart move by them.

It's not a good system for the gamer, and surely there's something better that can be done. I don't really like it either, having the odd chance of losing progress if you net fails. Just save early and often. Fact is, CD Keys just aren't enough anymore.

My cousins live down in Lefayette Alabama, down there.. there is no good internet where they live. Its either Dial Up or Hughes Net, they are hoping an internet provider eventually enters the area they live. So for now my cousins can't play anything online. They have internet, but if they play online it lags like hell.

Which really sucks, one of my cousins have like all of the Half-Life's he hasn't even played yet. Because Steam won't let you play games without being in online mode right?

Brb, gonna go test that out. Actually, before I do, I kinda doubt that because Steam servers do go down a lot, at least for the community and when you want to emssage friends.

Edit: Yep, Steam has to be on. Well, I was getting an error saying "could not connect to Steam network" when I tried to go offline. I find it kinda weird though, cause when I first got the Orange Box, I had temporary internet service on my gaming computer, but I was able to play Portal and the Half Lifes whenever I was disconnected to the internet. So... I dunno. Maybe you just have to have your account, and if it can't connect, it forces into offline mode and you can play from there.
