Also, I would be hard pressed to determine a single favorite, but my usual response is that it's Wind Waker for single player, and Super Smash Bros Melee for Multi-player.

I feel the same as you, Surge. Both games made the GameCube for me.

I remember when I subscribed to Nintendo Power a couple years ago, they would have a top 200 Nintendo games section in one issue a year. I don't remember what the top 10 was.

I remember that WW was in like 4th or 5th, and OoT was number 1

I'm going to have to go for Banjo Kazooie/Tooie here, nostalgia forces my hand. So what if Rare made it.

I have no idea. That was years ago.

Wait, try looking though the 2008 issues.

I'm pretty sure it was issue 200.

EGM did the same thing.

My mistake, the 200th issue of Nintendo Power just had a poster in the middle.

...And it was about Resident Evil on the DS... Wierd...

Yes. Another great Sqaure game is "Parasite Eve". I have beaten the first, but never got around to playing the second one, even though I own it. :S

Re: Best Nintendo Game?

Post  Quaetam on Sun Mar 28, 2010 6:17 pm

I'd have trouble picking an all time favorite Nintendo game, but I'll just list two here:

Fire Emblem (whichever one had Lyn, Eliwood, and Hector): Even though it lacked the map movement of Sacred Stones, the storyline was just... ...awesome... and I felt the chapters were crafted better, as were the characters for the most part. Also, having little gimmicks scattered about among games that are fun for players to try to discover is always one of the things that makes a great game. For example, there was a Wyvern Lord named Vaida with a spear that had been given super stat bonuses by the main villain (Nergal I think his name was). There was also conveniently a glitch using placable mines with which you could take control of your enemies. I managed to get the enemies to arrange themselves into the perfect pattern so that I could trade the spear around until the enemy who had it would drop it when I killed him. That spear remained in my party for a long time, and I saved it before it broke so I could use it in the link arena.

There were also loads of unlockable "side chapters" that were quite fun. Speaking of which, there was also an alternate path you could play through (Hector's Tale) once you'd beaten the game once. Play Hector's Tale on hard mode
Spoiler:
and there's a whole extra level of secret chapters you can unlock, including a bonus chapter to a bonus chapter if you manage to kill a bonus boss in one turn (because on the second turn he teleports away). Unlocking that bonus (chapter 19xx I think it was) would allow you to embark upon a series of three more secret missions scattered throughout the game provided you unlocked all of them (I.E. you couldn't get the concluding part to this miniplotline unless you got the first two). Stuff like that is what really makes a game epic for me. Fire Emblem and its series has been one of my favorites to this day.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door: So much about this game was just awesome. The battle sequences were fun and had, in the form of "stylish" bonuses, the same kind of gimmicks I mentioned above. There was enough technique involved that while it was turn based it still felt like I was always doing something, (not that I have any sort of problem with TBS games). The plot was above awesome, for reasons I just can't seem to explain. Each of the subplots was particularly awesome, especially fighting the X-Nauts in their base
Spoiler:
on the moon.
There were these weird but cool sequences in which you'd play as Peach held captive and subvert the X-Nauts from inside, and equally awesome sidescrollers featuring Bowser in classic Mario style. Speaking of which I loved the multiple villains. Having more than King Koopa to kill made the plot unpredictable. Not to mention the
Spoiler:
Shadow Queen, who I think may have inspired Tabuu's Red Rings attack. She had one that was three purple waves and did just as staggering amounts of damage, even more significant when you realize you only have one life against her as opposed to six. You had to either get really good at timing your blocks (like in brawl) or use your partner Vivian to pull you underground to avoid it. I also loved how you could join her and end the game instantly :p.
The areas to explore were incredibly creative, and it's the first game in a long time I actually didn't find collecting all the various hidden tidbits to be too annoying. Then you get the Pit of 100 Trials (which I never beat). There was just so much to this game.

There are more games but I felt like these two are basically the ensemble darkhorses of the group, a lot less known than Brawl, Twilight Princess, Mario Kart, or, say Ocarina of Time (all games that would also be in my fave group)

Depends on the genre I guess

RPG - Mother 2 and 3
Platformer - Super Mario Galaxy
Action-Adventure - To be honest, I really can't decide between all the Zelda games, but my favs are ALTTP, OOT, MM and TP

Can't think of any others.

I can see a lot of you are part of the "blindly love OOT above all else" crowd Razz

This thread needs to be about all games, just so I can say Baldur's Gate and piss off TJ, but that would be mean. And as Avalanche said, all the good games are by Nintendo Very Happy

My favourite multi-player games would be SSBB and Mario Kart (any of them, they are all awesome)

You know what my favorite sports game is? SSX 3. THAT was a good game. I know people hate sports games an awful lot, but this one was truly great. The sensation of giant heights that this was able to create on my 13 inch TV was phenomenal. This was miles ahead of anything Tony Hawk ever put out.
