Music in videogames. Now with extra piano!
It would be nice to hear some discussion on what people think about the music in videogames. Not just what songs they like from a videogame, but also some of the purpose and meaning that music adds to a game. Also, videos of some of the less familiar songs would be nice, hell, even for the really familiar ones, just because they're awesome.
Personally, I've always enjoyed the market theme from Majora's Mask because it's so upbeat and cheerful, but also has undertones of impending doom. Also, Pokey Means Business is epic, and if anyone can find me sheet music for it, I will +1 10 of their posts. Oh and, Endless Challenge from F-Zero X, that was awesome.

Re: Music in videogames. Now with extra piano!
I've always been a big fan of the music from Zelda, specifically the music from Ocarina of Time (although not my favorite Zelda title, it does have, imo, the best music), but many many others as well.
I love this one, so much. This is one of the only piece of music from a game for which I can remember just hanging around in the level just to hear it (at like age 8, mind you), with no interest in even playing or anything.
Probably my favorite piece of Zelda music, truth be told. Then again, I think everyone loves this one.
Wind Waker, being my favorite Zelda game, also had a lot of choice music.
As fun and iconic as the regular Zelda theme is, I like this one a lot more. The melody on the flutes really matches the feel of the game, and it such a charming piece. The use of woodwinds enforces the rustic feel of life in the Wind Waker universe, specifically in the small town of Outset Island.
This is my favorite Boss theme. Wind Waker really knew how to use those woodwinds.
Twilight Princess had some good shit too.
This song felt so uncharacteristic of a Zelda game, but I think it's quirkiness is what made it so appealing to me. Also it's really catchy.
I might have to come back to this, I am not immediately familiar with much of the music from TP
Also, I LOVED the music in the Pokemon games. I am not much of a gen elitist, but Gold and Silver probably had most of my favorite music on it.
This might be my favorite town theme. Drops a nostalgia bomb on me every time.
I also love this one, from Gen 4. It's so jazzy and upbeat.
This is far from all of it, though, I might come back with some of my favorite music from Mario and others.

Haha
I find myself often listening to music from Oblivion.
Wings of Kynareth my favorite!
Then there are these two pieces from Bioshock.
Welcome to Rapture
(Our favorite madman!) Yes it is Sander Cohen! With Cohen's Masterpiece!
We can't leave out Metroid Prime!
File Select!
Magmoor Caverns!
Phendrana Drifts!
And last but not least! Ignition from Dynasty Warriors 6!

Man, I sure love scrolling down past a huge collusion of youtubes. It's especially great when someone posts the exact same fucking song in response to a song saying they like it. That way, there is even more distance for me to have to clear.
