So David Tennant was involved in Doctor Who before he played the Doctor.

He played a Nazi in the 7th Doctor Audio Play Colditz and a mentally challenged "Daft Jamie" in a Colin Baker audio play called Medicinal Purposes. It was just odd to hear the tenth Doctor NOT playing the tenth Doctor.

He also starred in the 6 parter Dalek Empire and Two Doctor Who Unbound plays, but I haven't heard them yet. Cool, though, huh?

Pretty easy quiz. Only part that was hard was remembering the episode (It was The Robot, part 4)

But thanks for pointing me that way! Hope I win!

Good thing I did it right away too, this contest ends in 2 hours!

Because Viero asked, here's my Master's Laser Screwdriver.

And here's all the ones I have so far.

I also plan to Get every Screwdriver shown in the show. I need to get the Future Screwdriver River Song had, 2nd Doctor's penlight, 3rd Doctor's yellow and red one, Romana's thin one, and the varient on the 4th's with the gold band.

Most of these I'll have to make.

I've got the future one. Also, have you seen that $376 one that's an exact replica of the 10th show prop?

Pretty short DVD game thing that a friend showed me, figured I'd share it in case nobody else has gotten a chance to try it.

Yeah, I've seen that... I think the Grask came from the Sarah Jane Smith show or something. They might have appeared in main series who, but never had an episode to themselves.

So, I actually watched the first episode of season one of Doctor Who because of the reviews this place(Read: TheTJ) gave. I....uh.....what did I just watch? Killer mannequins, guy gets sucked into a trash can, same guy gets decapitated later on and his body still moved around, hands transformed into axe things, and...the doc is an alien or something? I dunno what to think about it, it was strange. Onward to episode two for some reason.

The first episode of the 2005 season is actually my least favorite episode of Dr. Who ever. And I love the show to death. It literally only gets better after that.

Yeah...I love the show tons too, but... MAN some of that early stuff.

Still, if you can make your way through to... Say, the Dalek episode, things start to get better. And if you can make your way to David Tennant things get WAY better. Chris Eccleston is fine and all, but he has the weakest episodes unfortunately.

Hardest part of being a Doctor Who fan is when someone else gives it a shot and starts with the Chris Eccleston stuff.

Yeah, it's great to know you're giving the show a shot, just know that even the hugest fans don't really like the first 5 episodes all that much. Keep an open mind and get through to episode 6 and never look back.

...I'd say skip episodes 4 and 5 entirely as they have some downright embarassing moments, but someone in charge of Doctor Who thought it'd be a great episode to reference several times through-out the series.

Ep. 2 isn't terrible and episode 3 is in my top 2 Chris Eccleston episodes.

But yeah the Slitheen are weird and childish and I sort of wish I could tell you to skip them but they do show up more than once again.

Re: Doctor Who

Post  TheTJ on Tue Aug 14, 2012 9:20 pm

So, I'm listening to these audio plays at work right, and there's something I found pretty cool.

Spoiler:
Anyway, the 8th Doctor never really had a presence on the air and could basically invent himself however in the plays. He also had the chance to make his own companions unique and do some more abstract stuff. Anyway, his first major companion was Charlotte Pollard, or "Charlie". She's a good character and I really like her, but all you need to know is that she was stranded in the year 500,002 which is a barren wasteland period for Earth, and the Doctor thought she had simply left him and was on Earth. Charlotte found some of the wreckage of the Cyberman ship and tapped out an SOS sygnal through time or something.

Here's where it gets awesome. The Doctor picks up the signal in the Tardis and goes to rescue her, but it's the 6th Doctor. Charlotte is vaugley aware that the Doctor can change and reasons that since HER Doctor didn't rescue her (And since this one didn't know her) he must be a previous Doctor and she tries to hide her identity to avoid a paradox.

I'm not going to spoil any more than that, but this is why I love the audio plays. The actors don't sound any different and as long as you've got a lively imagination the show seems even better. It has all the plot without any distractions in bad sets or costumes or CG. I mean, this would never work well on TV. For one thing we follow the Doctor's timeline only and companions can't really run into past versions of him (River Song being a special case) It's just something bound to happen with time travel, but ccould only really be done well in audio plays. I recommend you fans try to check them out if you can, they're well worth the cost.

Hrm... $200 for a 12 month subscription to Doctor Who Magazine (Well, 117 Pounds, I think that's about 200) At that rate it'd be cheaper to just buy them new one at a time.

...Also, I'm going to be spending SO much money on back issues. Even assuming they're only 10 dollars apeice (Old ones will more likely be 20-30) I'm looking at about 6000 dollars total. This is just the magazine.

So, a few years and around... 20,000 dollars from now I think I'll have QUITE an impressive collection.

Oh God I have a problem.

She means this one...

Of course, that one line is totally wrong. Sure, Robert Holmes was okay, but you know who else was a script editor for a while? Douglas Adams. He was script editor during the best part of Tom Bakers run and wrote one of the best episodes "The City of Death" over a weekend.

...Although I think Robert Holmes created the Autons and Sontarans... And he was involved in the Pyramid of Mars AND Talons of Weng-Chiang.

Nah, still goes to Adams.

Re: Doctor Who

Sooo.... I finally got around to watching Scream of the Shalka.

For those of you who don't know, Scream of the Shalka was a webisode of Doctor Who made in 2003 for it's 40th anniversary. It starred Richard E. Grant as the 9th Doctor (And was written out of canon when Eccleston revealed he was the 9th) and the art is TERRIBLE. I mean it's BAD. It's the worst art I've ever seen for Doctor Who, and that's really saying something as the 80s marvel comics were pretty wonky sometimes. I can't get over it. The Doctor looks like a... *Ahem*... rather fancy vampire.

It wasn't a good look is what I'm saying.

Gonna watch it again with the window closed to see if it'd work better as an audio play.

I mean, at least Dreamland LOOKED like David Tennant... sorta. This is just too Gothic. Especially when you consider the Doctor's history.
