Major Movie Letdowns

Post  Safetyfirst on Sat Apr 24, 2010 6:32 pm

I just watched the Tooth fairy expecting it to be real bad , but it wasn't, it was actually quite funny.

This made me think of this thread, what has been a major movie letdown for you ?

I was actually really let down from the Zohan movie. They made it seem funny in the ad but it was boring

Paschendale

Supposed to be a war movie. Was basically a chick flick.

Later when the commercials came out, it was basically just the war scenes (Read: Probably ALL the war scenes in the movie)

Another one: Inglorious bastards. It had hardly any action that it promised, it was basically a drama

You liked Inglorious Bastards? The only action in it was shown in the ads. It was boring: 2 hours of my life I'd like back

I loved it! It had a wonder feel to it, an almost gleeful sense of violence and mayhem. Sure it was broken up by talking scenes, but if you're bothered by that kind of thing you CLEARLY should not be watching a Quentin Tarantino film (It's kind of his thing.)

Someone else back me up on this?

From the ad it made it seem like it was a comedy. Most boring peace of shit I ever saw.

To me the ad made it seem like one of those "No Storyline, Lots of killing" films. I was let down

Another film i was let down by was Shrek 3. First 2 were great and 3 was lame

Shrek wasn't bad in the first, the second made it better. The third... well... once you start bringing pregnancy into animated disney family movies, how good can it be?

Men who Stare at Goats; it's an alright movie at best. It's funny when it's supposed to be, but otherwise it's meh.

I'm sorry to anyone who likes it, but....I can't stand to ever watch 'Talledeaga Nights', or what ever it's called--the movie about "Ricky Bobby" w/ Will Farrow in it. I hated it, to me the ONLY thing I liked was the moments Sasha Baron Conen was on screen.

Walk Hard > Talladega Nights IMO.
Repo Men probably left me disappointed, all the hype & awesome commercials made it look like a bad@$$ action film. At the end of it, it was more like a satyrical drama than an action movie, & while it was still cool with an awesome twist, wasn't what I expected at all :/

I can't believe that all the complaints about Inglorious Bastards are about it not being violent enough. I guess no one else was bothered by the glorification of war crimes. Because, you know, it's ok if you're fighting Nazis.

I know, how dare they kill Nazis!

Nazis were completely harmless individuals who thought for themselves and wouldn't hurt a fly.

It is wrong for Americans to dwell on life changing events that happened in the past.

Propaganda didn't leave any sort of mark on modern society.

Its not like it helped create Anti-smoking campaigns, or started careers for authors like, Dr. Seuss, or anything.

Yea, Inglorious Basterds was wrong in being Violent against Nazis.

In other news, I am the Queen of England

I haven't seen it, but by the sound of it, it kinda glorifies it...idk.

Hmm, disappointing films...I was really disappointed by Where The Wild Things Are. I never read it as a kid, but my friend made it sound like it was absolutely amazing and life changing, same with the movie. Instead, I sat around, bored, for like 2 hours. What drivel. Sad

Step Brothers. I think my IQ dropped a few points after watching it. My friends thought it was hilarious, but I thought it was stupid. I also think that most of what Will Ferrel does now is dumb.

I cant believe non of you mentioned:

X-men Origins Wolverine, X-men 3, Spiderman 3.

Granted there were some very good moments, but most of it was a letdown compared to what I was expecting.

Also the discovery of heaven. terrible terrible movie we had to make a report of, so I fill it with yahtzee like critisism. YOU DONT MAKE A MOVIE TO SHOW HOW MUCH SYMBOLISM YOU CAN STUFF IN IT! YOU DONT SACRIFICE THE STORY TO ADD SYMBOLISM!

making it even worse, it had some similarities with a story idea I had been toying with.
