Goldeneye Wii

Post  .. on Sun Jul 11, 2010 6:00 pm

We discussed this in the E3 thread, but I thought what the hell make a thread for it.

Those of you that loved Goldeneye 64 are either incredibly happy about a Goldeneye remake or they are just, "meh". Well before we get incredibly amazed at the "remake", let me say something.

I bet that this remake will just be a Call of Dooty clone. What I mean by that is..

- Regenerating Health (I FUCKING HATE IT)
- Limited Carrying Weapons
- "Melee Knife Swipe" (FUCKING HATE IT)

Not necessarily a clone, but it has key elements that I completely despise. One of the many reasons why I play Valve games. They keep it the way it is supposed to be.

Also there is a chance that the story won't be placed in the "Cold War" sooo... yea.

I am looking forward to the game anyways, I just hope they don't fuck it up. James Bond games went downhill after 007 Nightfire. They started this 3rd Person stuff with Everything or Nothing and From Russia With Love. Then they went all CoD style with Quantum of Solace.

I heard no levels of the original game that weren't in the movie will come back. Still, I'm trying as hard as I can to believe these are mistakes and to have faith in this game.

There will be a couple of levels of course. The Dam and Facility were shown. But since the Story may be placed in the, "Here and Now", means the original plot during the Cold War is no longer existing. Rumors of course but we will see when more is shown or when we get the game.

I won't judge until metacritic judges it for me. Even then, it still seems worth a rent.

I wonder if they're gonna make it stay a handicap to play as, what's his name, Baron Samedi I think. He's the guy with the white top hat that acted like a head, so if you shot the hat it was a head shot and he died. Much easier target.

Also, Levels like Library and Complex and Basement won't appear in this game. Or they shouldn't they were custom made maps by Rare.

Yea but that was real melee. Not the "knife swipe".

Real melee for example is like the TF2 Melee, The DoD Melee, the CSS Melee, the BF2 Melee.

Looks alright, but it does look very similar to Call of Duty. I guess there's nothing wrong with that, I've never really played CoD, maybe it plays well.

What exactly makes a melee attack "real" anyway?

I don't really care, I never played Goldeneye much anyway. You can still play the original no matter how much this one sucks (or not).

Care to answer my question? =P

I don't think I ever said, "real". But I haven't read this thread in a while and I can't remember what I said.

But I hate the "knife swipe". Basically, somehow, your character lowers his weapon, reaches for the knife, swipes with it, puts it back, and pulls the gun back up in like 1 second. It just annoys me now. I like the old melee, where you actually switch to the melee weapon.

EDIT: Just found where I said, "real". Just simply a bad choice of words.

How about when they whack them with the butt of the weapon? I thought that was how it works in Goldeneye Wii.

Bump.

Spoilers (but not really) about an unlockable in the game. Outlaw, you'll like it.

Spoiler:
When you beat the game, you unlock a mode where you play with the classic Bond health, meaning no auto health regen. Source: IGN Nintendo Voice Chat podcast ~40 minutes in.

Re: Goldeneye Wii

Post  .. on Sat Dec 25, 2010 3:48 pm

So my bro got it for me for Christmas.

Well, I am playing on Agent Difficulty and am about 8 levels in. I gotta say, the easiest way to deal with enemies is to just go up and melee them.

Melee is 1 hit kill. Some of them are just hitting them with the gun, others are "take downs" with melee moves. So I have literally gone through several levels where 90% of the time all I did was melee because it is so damn easy. It's like I feel no need to use the guns. I wouldn't be able to do this but the "regenerating health" allows me to. I go into a room with like 1-6 enemies in it and can take at least 4 down with melee before even thinking about having to take cover to regen health.

Obviously if it were on 00 difficulty I wouldn't be able to do this but I mean come on... I think this is a flaw. I mean yes, I am using it, but this is an example of why I don't like regenerating health and one-hit melee. It is fun but takes away from the game.

I can't wait for Classic Mode where Health doesn't regenerate. Also, the controls are messy with motion sensor. Sometimes when you go into ironsight mode and want to aim more up your crosshair turns into a symbol that means you can't aim more up but the things is, its going by how you would be aiming without ironsight. So when you exit ironsight it jerks you over more in the direction you were trying to aim.

Don't get me wrong, I like the game, I think its great. These are just a couple of things I don't like.
