what is it with people 'gasming over the dutch accent anyway?
My girlfriend loves the way i pronounce things and makes me repeat it over and over and over again. While she can't even pronounce my name right.

Whereas everytime a german person hears me talking dutch, they say its like a child attempting to speak german and failing horribly :p

guess English speaking people just aren't used to any accents :p

Reminds me of a bit in Love Actually where the American girls are cooing over a guy's British accent and making him name everything in the room Smile

Funny thing is, I got told off by a Dutch person a while ago because I heard their accent and asked if they were German. Whoops. But if it makes you feel any better my French teacher once told me I was the only person in the class that sounded like an English person trying to speak French Laughing

And pfft, not used to accents? For saying you can drive across the country in less than a day we have so many regional accents it's staggering. Even I have trouble understanding some of them. I actually thought I spoke the Queen's English until I moved down south and everyone kept asking me where I was from. Apparently flattening vowels is not the normal way of speaking >_>

So, starting tuesday I'm going to be in California (Fresno area I think) for my older brother's wedding. I'm not sure how often I'll be able to get on or check updates, but I'll be back on the 26th.

Just a heads-up so you guys don't think I died or anything.

hoo boy, American accents. there's the "television" american accent- the one that's from everywhere and nowhere, with nothing special about it, besides the fact that it's american. (think captain jack) then, you get the states. There are at least 5 in new york alone that I can name. The "new york" accent, the "brooklyn" accent, the "staten Island" accent, the "bronx accent", and idk if queens has one, but NY state accent is different from the "new york" accent.

and then there's 49 other states.
All with different regions.
it's ridiculous.

Like 3 times since I came here.

Anyway, I took the sample NYS ELA 8 test from 2005 in my English 8 class and got a perfect score, so that is enough for my guidance counselor to let me take English 9 for the remainder of the year (15 weeks). Razz I'm sooo excited!~

Yea, I ahve across between a Country accent and a regular american. Sometimes, when I am talking fast, I slip into a New York. More bronx than New York but....

My dad talks in a New York accent, he is from Queens, so no, Queens doesn't have it's own accent. When I move to New York, I will shoot for Queens, or Nyak. I really like it up there in Nyak, it is close to the city and quiet.

I don't notice my accent. I notice other Aussie accents but I don't notice mine. I like to think mine's subtle but anyone who has heard me speak knows it's not, ahaha.

The only accents I notice in California are the ones of different races. Other than that you just hear some different lingo, like "hella" in NorCal. On the topic of lingo, I was on Skype with a friend, and he said that he and his roommate are trying to convince people at their college that "scrump" was a common word spoken in the Sacramento area. I don't know what it means, but I don't care.
