I know! Like, everyone who sees it wants to get the DVD. I hate paying for movies, but I have movie theater friends and got to go to a free early screening so I only paid for two tickets.

Posting this because it's awesome. A short, independent movie made entirely through open source.

Watched a few movies on a trip to Rhode Island that's 5 hours each way.
The New Karate Kid movie, not bad. Not amazing, not nearly as good as the old ones, but not bad.
Robin Hood, the Russel Crowe one. Pretty awesome. A little hard to follow, but awesome.
500 Days of Summer. Awesome, especially since one of the guys coming up with us looks like the young version of the main character, so we kept making fun of him the whole movie.

And Finally,
Saint Ralph. I've seen this movie 4 times, and good God is it amazing. Maybe I only think so because it's about running, but you don't need to know anything about running to enjoy it. It's funny, inspirational, and just all around awesome. Watch it.

Just got back from seeing Descipable Me. I rather liked it. Thought it was a bit meh at the beginning but it really grew on me. Much like the kids with Gru, come to think of it Razz Then again I'm a sucker for dad/daughter stories. Also how on earth did Vector get past the censors. There were a lot of...implications with him. You just know he has several gigs of tentacle porn squirreled away somewhere.

The puns were fantastic. I think my favourite was Vector, after stealing the Great Pyramid, disguising it in his back garden by painting it blue with a cloud pattern. Also:

"Your dog had been leaving little...bombs in my garden. I do not appreciate it."
"Well, you know what dogs are like. They go wherever they want to go."
"Not if they're dead."

Also featured a character screaming "HE PUNCHED A SHARK!!!" Laughing

It wasn't an amazing film, but it was a very entertaining one. Certainly one you can watch several times over. I'm now badly wanting to be a supervillian again. Avalanche! Clone me some minions!

Myself, since family bailed the house for some kind of graduate school search out of state for the weekend, brought a bunch of my friends to the house and watched Iron man and Tropic Thunder Saturday. Good times were had by all, it's amazing how much better a movie gets when you add more and more friends into the equation.

Warning: Heavy rant on a movie you have never seen but should based on a show you have never seen but should

Firefly is probably one of my favourite tv shows of all time. Now, I finally saw the movie, Serenity.
I'm not sure what to say. It was a goddamn amazing movie, but it wasn't without its problems. Really, there was a lot that I didn't like.

Firefly was a scifi western with more emphasis on the second word. This movie's emphasis was a bit too much on the first word. Sure, I love me some good science fiction, but Firefly was always subtle with its science fiction parts. Also, the Reavers(which we never actually saw in the series) might have lost or gained creepiness by being shown, I do not know.

The rest I dislike is spoilerrific. Do not touch if you haven't seen the film.

Spoiler:
Motherfuckers killed Book and Wash.

I repeat.

MOTHERFUCKERS KILLED BOOK AND WASH.

Just why. WHY. I've never been this upset about fictional characters dying. Usually when a character I like dies I learn to accept it when the movie's over. But now I'm not just sad, I'm angry.

MOTHERFUCKERS KILLED BOOK AND WASH.

I guess it's a credit to Joss Whedon that he can write characters so appealing that you're actually saddened by their death but
MOTHERFUCKERS KILLED BOOK AND WASH.

I hate the concept of 3d movies - it tends to lower the quality of a movie if the director has to keep thinking "Ok we gotta find a reason to send something flying towards the screen every 10 minutes"

I hate the elitism of people when it comes to 3d. I honestly can't think of a single reason to hate on it as much as people have. Sure, some movies use the fly at your face things a bit too much, but that's hardly the entire genre. You know what? It's not a genre anymore. It's not a gimmick anymore. It's the next step. 3D is the new HD. Deal with it.

And it's not that the movies made around it, or with it, are even bad. I mean, if I were to say "Let's go watch Megamind". and you were all right with that, why then is it that if I should say "Let's go watch Megamind 3D" Everyone starts saying they don't feel like going to the theatres.

Now, some people are unable to see 3D, and for some people it can cause headaches, but that's below 15% of the population. I feel bad they can't enjoy it, but I don't blame the movies for them.

I don't mean to rant at you Suicide, it's just that "3D movies are bad" is a statement thrown around with absoulutly NO evidence to back that up, and for some reason a lot of people agree. This whole thing is a bit of a sore topic with me because the whole 3DS thing and I've been in a number of discussions about it.

3D is not the enemy.

3D is good.

Suicide did support his opinion with facts. He did that, actually, in his few words, than you did with your paragraph.

They have to find a way to utilize 3D. Things flying at the screen, or cheap 3D gimmicks usually do the trick. And those good movies that DON'T worry about that shit and make a movie just to make a good movie....

Why the fuck would I pay 4 dollars more so I can watch the same movie, plus a headache?

Yea. I am that 15%. Suck my 3D cock.

I'm not saying all of them are bad - I'm saying 80% of them are just gimmicky. My point was that most of them have it in their heads that "we have 3D we HAVE to show it off" and do so with the aformentioned thrown objects. Something that blends into the movie without being blatantly *about* the 3d would be a perfect use of teh 3D (i hesitate to call it technology because we've had this around since comic books, it's simple science that Studios finally decided they wanted to put the effort into putting into a movie)

I disagree with your opinion that it's teh "next step in movies" I'm also stepping up and saying HD wasn't worth the awe it recieved. The next step movies should take is, perhaps, 3D without glasses, but it all boils down to how a new technology is used, and It's my opinion that once a new technology is put into practice, it tends to get overused and gimmicky. Wii did it, 3d did it (although I'll admit it's gotten less so since it first came out)

I hate 3D, I think it takes away from directing in movies. When you make a 3D movie, you have to make it look good in 3D, not necessarily things flying off the screen. But for people to consider 3D worth it they want a lot of visual effects that look good in 3D. The 3D in avatar was criticized for being dull. I don't think it's the next step in film, I think it's a step down, it's just more stimulation to please the masses. It's a ploy of the movie companies to hike up prices and make more money. I love old films because of the way they use the set and the motion of the camera to tell a story. With 3D animation they just use the 3D to tell a story, it feels so lifeless while looking more life like. I simply hate it, I don't feel that it adds anything to a film.

Okay, but does it detract anything?

I honestly don't think it does. You know what I'd love? If people would just make movies and have them in 3D. I personally love 3D. I've seen UP, Toy Story 3, Nightmare before christmas, How to Train Your Dragon, and Avatar in 3D in Theatres. I've seen most of those in 2D format as well. I enjoy the 3D a bit more.

Most of the arguements I hear against 3D are "Ooooh, if they make a film around chessy 3D effects then the movies won't be good." Well, what if they DON'T do that? What if they just make a movie like they normally would, but in 3D? Then everything should be fine. But NOOOO! People are so put off by the idea that 3D movies could be bad, they won't give good movies in 3D a chance.

And you know what? I'm sick of it.

3D is good. 3D is here to stay.

DEAL WITH IT!
