Since we have a few runners here, I think it would be appropriate to have a thread for it, and anyone in general who went for an interesting run or anything, feel free to join in. In any case, Hudson, you said you had two meets at the Armory, what meets are those and when are they? I just got my schedule, so it would be cool if I actually saw you there.

We're going to the Jim Mitchell invitational on December 17th and possibly NSC Nationals (i highly doubt i'll make it there).

We mostly get "Who wears short shorts?" and i've only heard "Run, Forest, run!" from the mod squad.

btw, Minby, you don't happen to be on Bronxville, do you?

Darn, I'll be there the 18th for the Laughlin games. One day off, now I'm pissed. And lol, NSC nationals.

Yeah, our schedule said "December 17, Jim Mitchell Invite OR December 18, Bishop Laughlin Games" and our coach decided to go with the Jim Mitchell meet because we hold a record there and he wants defend it (i think)

Let's see... are you going to the Yale meet on January 21? We'll be there, and then we'll head over to Penn State for the meet over there the next day. Division IV Sectionals at SUNY Albany? State Qualifier, same place? State meet at Cornell?

and this Sunday, since I just got on the team, I'll be running the novice 800. Just that. The two novice races are back-to-back, so I'm going to the 800, im 90% sure.

Post  Omicron Austin on Wed Dec 08, 2010 7:19 pm

Oh, cool, just noticed this thread. I'll reply to several things, but without quotes.

"Run Forrest run" or, the alternative, "Run (your name), run!" doesn't make me rage quite as much as Minby, but it is nearly every runner's most hated phrase. For me, it's mostly "Yeah, I am already running. Aren't you clever?" It's totally fine if they KNOW I'm a runner, and I'm not quite running YET. Or, if it's raining and cold, and I'm hesitant...it may make me run.

Offroad runs are always the best. In my 3 years of Cross Country at my high school, we've gone through a lot of weird places. My favorite run has a good quarter mile stretch of rocky path with tiny trees and fallen tree trunks in the way. It's like an obstacle course that hurts your feet, and the small stretch feels like two miles when you're done with it.

Where we lived, there's no flat ground; it's ALWAYS hills, and we loved it. Our team rally cry before races was even "What do we love!?" "HILLS!" Flat races are so easy, it's ridiculous. One of our longer runs, an 8 miler, was literally 4 miles out downhill, and then the 4 miles back, uphill the entire way. Fun stuff.

Oh, and track? I ran it, but being a distance runner I really hated track, because the longest distance was generally only two miles. I did track to stay in shape for cross country, that's it.

I pretty much agree with you on everything.
Recently, on our long runs, we've been going on random paths just to see where they go. Some of the best runs ever. And all of our runs are hilly. One of our favorite places to go is actually a mountain. We go up a fairly gradual path, and it's not really that high up, but it's pretty damn high to stop by on a run, then keep going for another hour.

I think I can safely call myself a middle-distance runner, but long distance is cool. Modified XC was fun; we ran "long distance". So that equates to approximately two miles, maybe three at the most

If you slow down just a liiiittle bit, you can usually go twice as far, easy.

But when we do workouts on the track, all the senior high kids pass me :'(
but I finish, always (except on cool downs) and the team likes me, so I think this'll be fun.

and an asst. coach said that if i train year-round, I could be a veryy strong runner

but, camp is in the summer. No better place than Wakpominee

Psh, the running school's where it's at. They get actual Olympians to speak to the kids and everything, it's amazing.

Wow. Sounds epic. Here, in the middle of nowhere, the Lanes (yes, Austin Lane's parents) run a summer running program called Fast Lane. It's a bit pricy, so I'm glad I have an excuse to skip. But I still just might do it. We'll see when the summer comes.

Urgh, I don't. I once had to do a 5 mile sprint in 20 minutes whilst carrying a heavy backpack because I missed the bus. Absolutely knackered me. Then the lecturer turned up late, FFFFF-

I ran two PRs today. The Novice 800m in 2:43 and the 880yd section of the Distance Medley Relay in 2:49. It was the first time I ran in a meet. Ever.

Good job bro. I forgot to post it, but I ran a 5:05 Mile Friday. Kinda pissed I didn't break 5, but it was the first meet of the season, so I'm happy with it, since it's still a PR.

Nice job! The #2 XC runner on our team has a 5:19 (?) mile so that gives me a little judge of how extremely awesome you are (which is pretty awesome).

We ran at HVCC yesterday. The 800 was 5 laps. The mile was 10. It's a good thing they didnt include the 2 mile or the 3000 because people would die of boredom

A 160 meter track. That's...weird.

Thanks for the compliments, but I'm only our team's 3rd Miler.

Got back from the Armory late last night. It was fun; Betsy Edinger set a record for the track on the 1000, and I believe our old 4x1500 record still stands. I ran a 600 and came in like 4th to last and ran in the 4x1600, 3rd leg. I got 5:55 for my mile, but overall it was like 22:41. Our anchor still had two laps to go once everyone else finished.

I ran around three "warm ups" so i didn't get cool before my race. Still, i came in 5th to last or so. But the Armory was fun. I liked running in loops on the second floor :p
