So yeah, that Sherlock episode last night. This was the fandom reaction:

I loved it, it was the writers trolling the fandom and Sherlock trolling John in just an ever-increasing maelstrom of dickery. Derren Brown as himself! A tardis! That kiss! It was like they dredged tumblr for insanity and turned it into a 90 minute fanfic reenactment. Okay, the terrorist subplot fell to the wayside, but let's be honest we all wanted to the cast's reactions to Sherlock coming back. Like the many feels from Lestrade or Watson beating the shit out of him multiple times. It was a good episode and I enjoyed it.

Let's not forget this glorious hilarious moment either:

Spoiler:

So, what did the rest of you think?

Eh, I felt like the winks to the internet were a bit too heavy handed. Don't get me wrong, I chuckled when I saw it, but I imideately realized that this would be all over tumblr. Exactly like the writer's intended. Magnificent bastards.

The chemistry between the characters is still incredibly amusing though.

Just wait until you see the second episode, with John and Mary's wedding. There's a scene where John and Sherlock get drunk and try and solve a case whilst utterly wasted. My sides didn't so much as split as disintegrate.

Spoiler:

The problem though is that the past two episodes have been so much fun that you just know the third one is going to rip your heart out of your chest. The angsthammer is going to come down hard, and it's going to break everything...

Finished it today. It ended largely the way I expected it too, but it was definitely an amazing ride. Any chance for a spin-offl starring Saul?

The prequel spin-off Better Call Saul has been in development since before BB ended.

The prequel has me excited but a bit skeptical. It can't really do anything interesting with Saul as a character, plus his survival is of course guaranteed. That's taking amazing character development and unpredictability both away from Breaking Bad. But yeah, it's probably not good to watch it like it's Breaking Bad 2, because I highly doubt it can ever be that. I'm sure it'll be great as its own thing.

I started watching Breaking Bad from the beginning the day after the final episode aired. Took about an entire semester to watch it, as I wanted to pace myself, but the pacing of the show was so glorious that it was rather difficult to only watch one episode per day.

The consensus is pretty clear, I almost didn't have a single qualm with the entire show. Loved it from start to finish.

Truly a television show to go down in history. In a thousand years, it will be revered as a treasure, one of the greatest wonders of mankind. Aliens will immediately attempt contact as soon as they catch the last episode beaming to their planets.

Guys guys, the finale of Sherlock last night.

Spoiler:

I WAS NOT PREPARED OH LORDY

That shooting scene! Sherlock's dog! Mrs Hudson being 420 blazing! The something about Mary! I thought it was great. There were loads of injokes for fans of the books (the bee reference got a chuckle out of me, and the east wind doesn't bode well for S4) and plenty of rug-pulls to go along with it (I was NOT expecting that with Mary). Also that twist at the end, only the craziest parts of the fandom saw that coming. Spectacular. It was a strong ending to what's been the best series yet.

The Twitter reaction to Sherlock having a girlfriend is making me strangely angry. The story the episode is based on has been out for over 100 years, it's not like it's some huge shocking twist or anything. Eesh.

Placing my bets for S4:

Spoiler:
Episode where Sherlock has to babysit.
Turns out Moriarty is still dead, this is someone else using his identity
Sherrinford Holmes gets a mention
Episode based on 'Silver Blaze'. I can wish.

I.... honestly have no idea of what to make of this.

If nothing else, the Bobs Burgers gag made me laugh.

The whole thing stinks of desperation for ratings. I know it's been said often, of both shows, but once they pull this can the end be far off?

Family Guy I'd expect rape jokes from. Simpsons though giving their approval, I am disappoint. Because Bart is still portrayed as a 10 year old boy, whereas Stewie was never really a baby. So that scene is really uncomfortable to me.

I'm nostalgic enough to think the Simpsons is lowering themselves with this whole mash-up, though in reality the two are probably on a level field these days...

To be fair, I think the point of that bit was that Bart was uncomfortable, or at least confused by Stewie's prank call.

Apparently it's being classed as a Family Guy episode, which explains a lot. Family Guy is absolutely tanking in the ratings and it's going to be lucky to survive another season. Granted the Simpsons is also struggling, but it makes so much money in merchandising it's going to last a lot longer. It really seems like a grab for ratings, trying to pull in an audience from another show. And if it doesn't Family Guy is definitely getting the axe (again).

Sad thing is, this could be a really funny episode, but it's just going to tired parodies of old gags...

Family Guy is great because Seth absolutely did not expect to get this far with the show, and never really even wanted to anyway. In the show they are constantly alluding to the fact that its all more contrived than ever, in some cases just blatantly stating that the show should have been cancelled a long time ago.

As for the simpsons, I personally feel as though it should have lived only as long as futurama got to, and that Futurama was the Matt Groenning show that went on forever

That is, selected cinemas, which translates as 'it will air absolutely nowhere near you.'
