The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Post  .. on Thu Jan 13, 2011 3:58 pm

So heres the deal, Skyrim comes out 11/11/11.

The story is something about you being a Dragonborn Dragonslayer, weird right? It takes place in Skyrim obviously, 200 years after Oblivion.

The NPC Conversations have been revamped hopefully to fix some of the bugs. Such as when 2 NPCs talk to each other, their replies have nothing to do with what they were talking about. The next thing was the faces have been changed a lot and I admit they look a lot better, they apparently will show more emotion than in Oblivion.

There will be 10 races to choose from.

The combat system has been changed too. You may dual wield weapons. So you can have a dagger and a mace, two of the same weapon, a shield on one hand magic in the other. There are so many combinations and that is one of the main changes. I like this, you can have like 2 spells one for both hands so you are duel wielding spells, I think that is pretty cool.

There have been a change in the skills. In Oblivion there was like 21 or 23 skills, in Skyrim there are only 18. They took out the lesser popular ones.

Also the leveling system has been changed, you no longer have "major" and "minor" skills. So you can have a well rounded character and still level up.

There will be no level cap.

Bethesda seems to like the statement "You are what you play as." They said something about your combat shaping what your character is in the world.

Beards. Thats right, I said beards.

The improvements I want to see from Oblivion are:

Better Storyline - To tell you the truth, Oblivion's story was ok, but the missions were boring. Especially the Oblivion gates, they were waaay too repetitive.
Companions - They did good with this in NV I want to see it done for Skyrim.
Better Variety of Ruins - Some of the ruins were copy and paste it seems.
Player Owned Houses - They did this in Oblivion but I want them to do even better.

...No level Cap?

The only thing on earth that could make this better is Patrick Stewart (Assuming Bethesda holds to the same standard of Quality).

These are scans from some random site but they are the ones on the GameInformer February Issue. I have the issue so I know they are the same. (Crappy quality scans)

More info.

There will be weapon forging.
There are 5 major cities.
You can duel NPC's in the street.
When creating a character you can customize their body. (Insert Joke)
You can sprint using Stamina.

They really did improve on character models. Nice.

This looks really nice. Even more, I can't wait to see the next Fallout with this engine.

I've been psyched about this from about December.
I'm a huge Oblivion fan, and even still play it sometimes. I always picked a Nord, so Skyrim is gonna rock Razz

The screenshots and the updates seem awesome so far. i mean... Beards. Come on!
Also it's good they got rid of the major/minor skills, as it pretty much messed up your character. I loved using Alteration, but it pretty much made my character level up way too fast. And it was a bitch to get into if you didn't pick it as major skill.

Dual wielding seems awesome, though I'm wondering how the controls will be. Do you control each weapon seperately, or does your attack button make both weapons go completely berserk?

Can't wait for more :3

This is a instant buy for me when this comes out on the computer. Very Happy

Oblivion was one of the fews games that I actually played on the 360. So looking forward to what this new one will be like.

I never really got into the elder scrolls series.......The freedom was always a tad overwhelming, as Morrowind started my habbit of just stealing everything that isn't bolted to the floor for 2 days, then stopping before even starting the story.

i personally love the freedom of the world. I didn't do the starter mission at all untill I finished other stuff. Like said in this thread earlier, it was a bit repetitive XD
But in the end even that had some creative/fun parts in it.

Personally i LOVED the Shivering isles expansion, with the colourfull characters and world. I hope they keep the Daedric realms in Skyrim too.

Any skill you improve will progress towards leveling up. However improving a skill from 34 to 35 goes a lot farther towards your leveling up than improving a skill from 11 to 12.

Each level up you automatically get a Health Boost, then you can choose to either Boost Magicka or Stamina. They will also have a perk system like Fallout. So you could have perks that improve your mace attacks, so that they ignore armor.

When I first played elder scrolls. I seriously never even touched the main story until I needed to start over which was a long time ago. And that was only a few levels into the main story when I did it. lol

Well that trailer is quite impressive. I think they are taking this to more like Morrowind than they are Oblivion. Which is good, there are many things I liked about Morrowind.

Yes, the Story in Oblivion wasn't that good mainly because of the repetitive Oblivion gates. They were so boring.
