The Back Catalog of Unfinishedness

Post  Smashy B on Sat Mar 05, 2011 9:10 pm

These are the games that you have either started or own and have never gotten around to finishing them. For some, you may not have much, and you should be revered. Others, like me, have a long and growing list of unfinished titles and should be scorned thusly.

So show us your list, if you even have one. From it, it's your choice if you want to do something about it and get around to ever completing some of them.

PC
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Battlefield: Bad Company 2*
Bioshock 2*
BIT.TRIP BEAT* (Not sure if you can technically finish anyway)
Bob Came In Pieces (On like World 3)
Borderlands
Dead Space (Shame on me cause it's awesome)
Dragon Age II
Fallout: New Vegas
Half Life: Blue Shift*
Half Life: Opposing Force*
Half Life: Source (Beginning, played for an hour, died, had to start all the back cause I took the auto saves of HL2 for granted and didn't save. Raged quit.)
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Metro 2033 (Few chapters in)
Mirror's Edge (Most of the way through when my hard drive died. Lost it all. Back at the start.)
The polynomial* (See BIT.TRIP BEAT)
Protal 2
Sam & Max 301: The Penal Zone
Sam & Max 302: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak*
Sam & Max 303: They Stole Max's Brain!*
Sam & Max 304: Beyond the Alley of the Dolls*
Sam & Max 305: The City that Dares not Sleep*
Super Meat Boy*
The Witcher*
The Witcher 2*
World of Goo*

Not PC
Metroid: Other M*
Super Mario Galaxy 2*
Super Mario RPG
Super Metroid (I dunno where)
Zelda
Zelda II
Zelda: Majora's Mask (Stone Temple. Gamecube would start to freeze and start me back on day one. Gave up; haven't finished.)
Zelda: Spirit Tracks (It got boring)

*All games maked with an astrisk are ones that I haven't started.

At least I can say that I played through every Gamecube game that I own (assuming ported Zelda's don't count). Let's be honest, some of these games, I'll never get to. Some really do need to get done though. Over summer I'll probably try to get a few or more unfinished ones a finish.

Is your list as bad as this?

Pokemon: Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald
Pokemon: Mystery Dungeon (any of them)
Pokemon Ranger (1 and 3, finished 2)
Professor Layton and the Curious Village
Professor Layton and Pandora's Box (nearly finished)
Spyro the Dragon 2, 3
Crash Bandicoot 1, 2
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Metroid Prime Trilogy (yeah, haven't started that)
Super Paper Mario
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Sunshine

...I'm sure there's more, probably. D:

I try to keep ahead on my games, mostly because I don't buy them very often.
Games I've gotten in the few months:
-Bully (PC (horrible port btw))
-Deus Ex (PC)
-Epic Mickey (Wii)

Games on back catalog (put down and never picked back up):
-The World Ends With You (DS)
-No More Heroes (had to return it) (Wii)
-Final Fantasy 4 (DS)

So did I, but I hit a point where I had a hard time advancing, and when I did, I sort of lost interest. The problem I have with DS games is that I can only justify playing them when I'm not at home, and have the freetime to play games, whcih was often as a child, but now is seemingly never. Maybe I'll bring em to class to play on my breaks...

My list for this would be huge, as I'm TERRIBLE at actually finishing a game after starting it. I have trouble sticking to something for awhile unless it's more of an action game, then I'm good with it.

I must, with regret, add Dragon Age II to the list. I've been dealing with a series of computer issues that have left me unable to play the game, or anything on my computer for that matter. Long story short, at first I thought it was the graphics card overheating, but after two RMAs, and further diagnosing, I believe that it there i a short circuit in the PCIe slot of the motherboard. After an hour on the phone, got an RMA approved for that. Just had to take apart everything, gotta send in the motherboard, wait for a new one, and put it all back together (and hope that the video card still works).

Fortunately, I have my laptop for school and this. And Pokemon, oh, my pogeymanz. :B

Re: The Back Catalog of Unfinishedness

Post  Quaetam on Sun Mar 27, 2011 10:32 pm

Hmm, let's see...

Mine is actually pretty short, I tend to commit to games and do what I can to finish them.

PC:
Warcraft III-single-player campaign, never actually finished the Frozen Throne bit. I play multiplayer regularly with friends.)
Star Trek: Dominion Wars-Never really got into it, probably won't finish it.
Fable-I never took to it as strongly as some others, not sure why.
Dawn of War-got somewhere in the middle of Winter Assault and haven't played since. It's a great game by one of my favorite developers but I just don't have the time.
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion-Only get to play it at my cousins, so yeah...
I Wanna Be The Guy-Do I need to explain? Razz I don't have the time for this, though I don't find it IMPOSSIBLY hard.
Command and Conquer Red Alert series: Never played them enough despite owning First Decade. I play just about every other C&C game more than them, the most frequent being the unusual (by C&C standards) Generals+ZH. It's a shame: I should really get around to these, since they're supposed to be so good.

Other:
Super Mario Galaxy II-I'm actually still playing this but progress has been really slow, unfortunately.
Blazing Angels: Some WWII dogfighting game that I only played once or twice.
Super Mario Sunshine
Metal Gear Solid 4 The Movie-used to play regularly at a friend's house, just kinda fell out of touch with it.
Fallout New Vegas
Pokemon Emerald Nuzlocke I've been intermittently working on

I'm sure there's more, but this is what immediately strikes me.

Super Mario Galaxy II- Why are you playing this when you haven't finished sunshine? Fuck you.
Super Mario Sunshine- How far are you? Thats a two day game. AS IS GALAXY 2. FUCK YOU (Jk I beat them both in one.)
Metal Gear Solid 4 The Movie- AND A DAMNED GOOD ONE AT THAT, BITCH

Because Mario games must be played in sequence, of course :3

I never owned sunshine, only have been able to play it at a cousins' house. For Galaxy 2, like I said, a WIP, I'm just very busy.

And MGS4 is a very good game, I just don't own it and haven't finished.

Bumpin cause I have resolved myself to take off a few games from the back catalog over summer. These games will be grouped into what will be called "The Pile of Shame" for not having beaten/played.

They will most likely be done in the following order, though that is subject to change:
Portal 2
Dragon Age 2
Dead Space
The Witcher 2
Mass Effect 1/2

Considering that the pile is pretty RPG heavy, I may not even get to the ME games. May substitue with smaller games.

The ME games will require at least 40 hours each. If you want the full bonus from ME1, you have to play it twice. All in all, I guess i spent 120-130 hours total on Mass Effect.

What constitutes being the full bonus from playing it twice?
