The Technology Thread

Post  Raya on Tue Apr 19, 2011 1:23 pm

I realised we didn't have one. From laptops to phones to walkmans, discuss your latest gadgets and sing praises/complain about them.

I have a slight ulterior motive too; I've finally given up on my bloody mp3 player. The battery has finally packed in- charged it all night and it died within hours. Replacing it hasn't solved the issue. Well, it had a good run of about 7 years. So, anybody have any recommendations for a new one? I don't care about any fancy features beyond playing music and it needs to be fairy robust. Price I'm not too fussed about, but since it will get covered in paint, asphalt and God-knows what maybe something not too expensive Razz

My MP3 works pretty well, It's a GoGear Aria, it has 8GB, and it's survived being washed three times, dropped uncountable times, and chewed on by my dog. I've gone through about 14 pairs of headphones in the time I've had it -.-

Yeah, I'd suggest one of the smaller iPods.

I should really look at getting a new one, but then again, I don't use it anymore. I'm either on the phone or my DS, lol.

Myself, I have a Sansa player. It's a lot like an Ipod, just a lot less expensive and is only used for music. It can't do anything else, but it gets the job done for what I want it to do.

Philips GoGear Ariaz 16G MP4 whatever is my weapon of choice.
I have no complaints about it other than the fact that it forces you to use Philips Songbird, a program SO SMART it sometimes DELETES SOME OF YOUR SONGS BECAUSE IT THINKS THEY ARE PIRATED.

Used to have an old-school MP3 player. Now I've got a pretty nice ITouch. Unfortunately, ITunes is a terrible program and screwed up on my computer, and now my entire IPod is also fucked up. Haven't actually listened to music off it in a while.

I have an iTouch. It works fine for me, and Pandora has to be the greatest thing whenever you have internet connection.

Pandora recently got blocked in our school following an increase in system security and in cracking down on games...

...I cannot pretend that I didn't play a part in the reason for this...

Discalimer: Apple Alert

A few or more years ago after my Dell DJ died on me I decided to submit to our Apple overlords and got an 80 GB iPod Classis. Thing is sturdy, holds every song and video I may have on my computer and then some. Currently, it sits on a clock radio thing (not an ihome) and wakes me up every morning with a random song from the 5000+ in my library. This morning was Rascal Flatts.

During my high school's senior class graduation night, everyone was entered in a raffle for prizes and I won one of the last items, which was an 8GB iPod touch. One more, and I would have won an iPad, but hell, I wanted a touch anyway. Also came with a thin rubber protective case inb4 ipod condom and a receipt. Brought it back to Best Buy and exchanged it for a 16GB and that has been my primary use for music. Having the Wifi connection is cool since it's everywhere around the campus here (except the dorms) so it makes its uses when I'm bored in class. I like playing games on it as well. If you get a touch, get Cut the Rope. Angry Birds is cool and all, but Cut the Rope I think has more variety, and Om Nom is adorable. <3 Also, game Dev Story is fun. May go on about that in another thread.

I also got an iPhone beginning of March. My contract expired with my old phone so I upgraded. Great phone, been making use of the apps. Just need to figure out how to make my own ringtones. I want Charmander yelling at me whenever I get a text.

So yeah, I've kinda fallen into the iPod bit as far as music players. Relm brought up Sansas players and they are pretty cool. If you want something that just does music, go with that or probably something else not Apple made.

Yeah, smash, I think the wifi is at this point what I use my ITouch most for since ITunes is fucked up. IPhones are awesome, but I don't have that kind of money sadly.

Or half a day of in-school suspension. The "Everyone" is over 70 people.... Over the course of two days.

Lately iTunes has been cooperating with me, except that it doesn't want to let me add music to my iPhone from my laptop. Haven't tried from the computer recently (which is what I first used to add some stuff) cause it's still all the fucked up and I'm giving up on it til Summer.

Lol, reminds me of last year before we got the new librarian. The lunch periods and 9th period in my school were dubbed "AP Starcraft" by the people in the library, and every day you could either join in HaloCE LAN or Starcraft. Then, this year, the new librarian took over, and everything was crap. But until that happened, it was a glorious period to have free.

I remember one year at that community college I went to, at least half of the computers in the computer lab had WoW installed on them. It was amusing.

I remember my highschool days and Quake, the Halo Trial and emulators were rampant.
As for mp3s, I don't trust iPods in general, and will more than likely never own one. I have a Phillips GoGear that's lasted me a couple years now with no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Screen could be bigger, but it was a pretty good deal at the time.
