I am... intrigued. It's certainly a deviation from the standard formula... but then again, that's probably a good thing, since the same game rehashed gets stale.

It was said from the start by Aonuma that he wanted to change the formula around with Skyward Sword, and it looks like he did.

I love everyone here, does that mean I should marry all of you? Because that would be kinda awkward....

Also there are a ton of games where you fight the last boss at the start, so that means nothing.

And i'm very interested in it, and quite glad that he did.

If it's not a curb stomp IMHO it undermines the menace of the Villain, an example I think where fighting the Final boss early is Chrono Trigger, Where You normally get your monkey ass handed to you in a big way. a bad example is FFX when you beat Seymour. just because you beat him then you beat him again and again. So it can be done I just don't beating them makes them a threat.

Well you clearly don't beat him. HE CAN STOP LINK'S SWORD BETWEEN HIS FINGERS! TWO FINGERS! And if you don't shake it off, it takes it and uses it against you! How more menacing does he need to get?

Its just going to be the usual thing. The villain will be completely overpowered compared to your current state, so you will lose miserably, and then fight him at the end or somewhere in between.

Dr. what the hell are you talking about? Just because you fight him at the start does not mean he is not the last boss.He even seems to just be playing with you for fun. Vaati is not going to be the main boss in this. Deal with it.

That's actually exactly right. Before the battle begins he says "Still... it hardly seems fair, being of my position, to take all of my anger out on you. Which is why I promise up front not to murder you... No, I'll just beat you within an inch of you life!"

And for a Zelda game, it is highly unconventional to fight the main villain before anything else.

Here's the whole boss fight.

I thought he might be a precursor of the Twili, since they were said to be all magicky and evul and such, and their shenanigans and subsequent banishment seemed to have happened prior to Hyrule's formation as a kingdom. I guess we'll see.

I thought OoT said they had pretty much always served Hyrule's royal family? My Zelda lore is a bit foggy these days. ._.

The villain is a Demon Lord right?

That makes Link a Spirit Detective. Next thing you know he will be shooting lasers out of his fingers.

I believed the Tear in the emblem of the Sheikah Tribe was because of the Betrayal of the Royal Family, If my memory serves me justice. This may be a? the? Point where the betrayal.

I doubt it, since I believe this game will play through the creation of Hyrule as a kingdom. Can't betray the royal family if there is no royal family.

Hmm. The game itself looks like it has the potential to be quite good, or even awesome. I, like most others, am certainly anticipating it with eagerness. I also like the idea of fighting the main villain early on, though frankly I have to say I wish Link was more legitimately curbstomped, rather than 'winning' in a duel, even though the Demon was only playing with him. I can't say I like the villain design either, at least not as a main villain, but hey, it's something different, so it deserves a chance, and for all I know could come out quite awesome. I'll see where they go with it.

Honestly We have little to go on for speculation I concur with Q on his Analysis. And Curbstomping is an effective way of proving Bamfitude.
