I know I've said it before and God knows I'll say it again, but MAN do I hate bees.

It's springtime again and that means mowing the lawn, which I'm... okay with I guess. But there's almost always a big ol' bee hanging out in our backyard and since I'm terrified of bees I can't go back there. Because I'm hiding inside though my parents get mad at me for not having finished mowing yet. So I keep getting sent back outside, see the bee, go back inside, get yelled at a bit, etc. etc.

Point is I want to move to Alaska or something. Somewhere with no bugs anyway.

Aww, but bees are bros. They won't hurt you unless you attack them. Since, y'know, that will kill them. They're pretty chill animals and if you leave them be they'll just keep doing their jobs. Try forcing yourself to overcome your fear and just watch them work, they're really interesting. Once you get it into your head they're not going to hurt you they become fascinating. Screw wasps though, those guys are dicks.

The first time I got stung by a bee, I was like 17 years old; it was also the only time.

It hurt for a minute or two. And then I got over it. I still like to avoid them.

What Raya says about bees not attacking you unless you annoy them is true. Using a lawnmower annoys them.

hmm first 2 episodes of the new Avatar have been leaked. It looks pretty good, even if the new setting takes some getting used to. Going from classic fantasy asia to early industrial asia is quite a shift in tone.

I've been considering doing study abroad next summer (not this summer, the next one) in Japan, though I'm not too sure what to think about it or if my reasons for wanting to do it are well founded. Studying abroad during the semester doesn't sound that attractive to me, especially considering how far I am into my curriculum already and the fact that the classes I need may not even be offered wherever I'm going. The summer seems like a more casual way to go about it and likely a bit less expensive, although I won't have the opportunity to work over the summer and make some money if I do that.

What sorts of experiences or stories do you guys have about studying abroad or travelling for extended periods, whether it be from personal experience or from friends?

*weeaboo ears prick*

*leans in*

With studying abroad your main problem is going to be the culture shock. Even little things are really going to bother you after a while (there was one girl on my uni course who came from Illinois and she was driven up the wall by the fact nobody in England would ever make eye contact with her). Japan is a completely alien culture, and even Japanophiles find it difficult to adjust. Plus unless you have a good grasp of Japanese you're seriously going to struggle outside of academia. Although lots of younger Japanese speak some English it's still a pretty racist country, so you're not going to get by on tourist Japanese if you're staying there for a long time.

On the other hand one of my friends studied in Japan for several months and he absolutely loved it. The only problem he had was finding socks to feet his massive gaijin feet. He'd gladly do it again if he could.

I'd say go for studying abroad, but do your research first. If they don't have English as their mother tongue, will you be able to get by? What's the culture like? What support will you be getting? Try and track down some students who have done it as ask about their experiences; it'll be a lot more honest than from the course organisers. It'll be an experience, certainly, just make sure it's a good one.

(oh, take your own teabags btw, just saying)

You try going a whole week without a proper cup of tea. My withdrawl was so bad I was ready to burn down the whole of Bavaria to find something that wasn't goddamn coffee or fruit 'tea'. Lesson learnt, never again.

A few of my brothers recently studied abroad. One went to Portugal and then Thailand and loved both of them. Thailand is really cheap to go to and buying stuff as well. The other two that came back last quarter, one went to Germany, and the other to Italy. I've heard nothing but good things.

I'd love to study abroad, but with how I have my classes planned out through senior year I'm on track to graduating within four years, even with pursuing a minor in Physics. So if I do (and can afford it) it'd have to be over summer as well. If you have the chance to study abroad, really think about doing it.

@ Relm and Raya) There are some tea shops that may suit Raya's needs. I know at the mall back home there's a Teavanna, which seems like a legit place for tea. I really like what they have to sample at least, but I dunno cause I'm not really a tea connoisseur.

@outlaw yeah huttball is a pain in the ass in my opinion. i much prefer the other two. then again my skill set is more handy for that.

@relm, raya etc. there are plenty of good tea places, teavanna being one as smash said. big cities always have good selections though so she should be fine, especially if raya's a fan of black teas. Teavanna has quite the selection of them, and honestly so do most grocery stores.

in other news i can't wait till this semester is over. I'm going into stress overload with so much to do. It's made even worse by the fact that my boyfriend is in the same boat, possibly even worse than me and i can't really do too much to help him. He was on the verge of tears earlier and he's not one to cry. It's hard seeing him like that. I just really need another week of break to give me the extra time i need...

Also you can get Earl Gray tea at Starbucks, which is a coffee chain that is freaking everywhere. You can probably get it at almost any other coffee chain.
