Yep! You basically do everything in that middle bit.

We have a friend who's a salesperson for it, and he did his sales pitch at the tupperware party I went to. Won me over. Especially with the bread, butter, dip, risotto, salad, gelato and italian hot chocolate he made.....

So, I have homemade Salsa and Guacamole finished, and I'm prepping Bacon-wrapped Pepper Poppers, Barbecue chicken wings and Bratwurst. I take the Superbowl seriously.

For my Eurovision party every draws a country from a hat and brings a dish from said country. I've drawn the Netherlands. Any suggestions for some simple Dutch food suitable for a buffet I can make?

Dutch food is horrible. Just... don't.
It's all just mashed potatoes and other horrible vegetables mixed in, then we pour gravy over it untill you can't recognise which of your body this belongs to.

Serious suggestion though; "Stamppot Andijvie". I have no idea what the english name is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stamppot.

Be a true dutch and make a little pond of gravy in the middle, we like to employ dykes into our food too.

Man, that's a clever idea for Eurovision. Knowing me, I'm just going to be incredibly lazy and get stuff like chips and dip and beer.

Maybe I'll make up some drinks.

I have barely been cooking of late because I've been so damn lazy, I'm tempted to use some of my frozen raspberries to make a chocolate and raspberry cake of some sorts, though.

Stamppot actually sounds really nice Perry :<

I've settled on making some kaasstengels (cheese twists) because who doesn't love cheese twists? Yes it's simple to make, but I'm making an entire bloody buffet by myself so I think I have an excuse.

The countries the other people drew are Italy, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Russia and Great Britain. Should be an interesting night~

I never actually noticed how obsessed Britain is with cheddar. I went into the supermarket today to buy some gouda, and looking at the shelves it was essentially:

cheddar-cheddar-cheddar-red leicester-cheddar-cheddar-cheddar-wenslydale-cheddar-cheddar-gouda-cheddar-cheddar-cheddar

Granted it is the best cheese ever, but still.

Anyone who isn't dutch or french doesn't even know what cheese is, so just stop whilst you're ahead.

And having tasted Gouda from your local supermarket doesn't count.

My French teacher would bring in cheese and crackers on Thursdays. I was quite a fan of the ashen goats cheese.

Blue cheese is top tier, though.

Wensleydale made you think of Python and not Wallace and Gromit?

Disappointed.

....in saying that I just struggled for a few minutes to find a decent clip of Wallace and Gromit to post in response but I couldn't find anything of decent quality.

My kaastengels turned out brilliantly. They were pastry brushed with egg, then filled with grated gouda and herbs. I made two versions, one with pepper and thyme and one with pepper and chilli. Pastry gets cut into strips, which are then twisted into a spiral then baked until golden. They were pretty damn tasty, and now I have an order to make about 60 of them for a birthday party. Think they went down well!

Re: Brawl a la carte

Thanks to a freezing spring and a blazing summer there's a bumper harvest of berries this autumn. When I was little this time each year I'd go out blackberrying and come back with buckets of them, which my mum would bake into gorgeous pies. So in a fit of nostalgia I baked a homemade blackberry, elderberry and apple pie!

Blackberries and elderberries were all picked by myself, apples were supermarket bought since I didn't know anywhere to go scrumping. Presentation...was somewhat lacking as I bought too big a pie dish so had to fold over the sides of the pastry. I was a bit worried as I don't have any scales so had to estimate the ingredient weight, but it turned out bloody delicious. Scrumptious, even.

Berries are still coming out, so I might bake another one~
