Explain to them that the electoral college system completely nullifies the idea that your vote will determine an ultimate winner, especially in a state that is a safe state like ours, and that you want your vote to go towards giving representation to a minor party so they can enjoy publicity and awareness in future races, which is more likely to actually "count" than voting for Obamney.

That's exactly what I just did, but they're still stuck on the "lesser of two evils" thing.

Well because I like the phrase I will not vote for the "shiniest of two turds".

But I have said this before. When I tell people I am not even voting they always have to question why.

A. I like neither Obama or Romney.
B. Alabama is a safe Republican state. It matters not who I vote for, Alabama is all Republican. (Minus a few counties, I am looking at you Jefferson County. You are like the only Blue!)

If you don't mind me saying, I think voting is a civic duty and you really should reconsider voting even if you aren't interested in who will be president, there are other things that are equally important to vote on. If you have any state or county propositions, those are huge and should be considered because they will strongly affect you, even if they seem inapplicable (for example, it might not seem like k-12 education funding will affect you but if you own a home, (which I believe you mentioned you do) and the quality of education in your neighborhood increases, you property value goes up.) This is an example, I don't believe education is on your ballot. http://ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.php/Alabama_2012_ballot_measures

I don't get why somebody would get angry at you for not voting for Mittens, but people are stuipid so their you go.

Also the Salt Lake City Olympics were profitable. As in they made money. which the London Olympics didn't.

To become angry at another person's opinion is just plain dumb.

Which is where, in the case of what you said, people will respond with, "Doesn't everyone deserve free Healthcare?"

Also, I found the foreign policies to be mostly the same. From the debate it seemed like they agreed on quite a few things.

I support socialists but I also sympathize with anarchists and communitarians. I don't think I'll be voting for the PSL (Party for Socialism and Liberation) candidate this year though because I don't know how I feel about the party.

Foreign Policy and he will repeal Obamacare.
Do you agree with his (and Obama's) Iran policy?

Wait, why is Obamacare a bad thing?

In Australia, no matter who's in charge, we have easily accessable healthcare, which is good for me, I can go see my doctor or psychologist or psychiatrist without too much in the way of out of pocket expenses. Thanks, government!

I literally do not understand why accessable health care is a bad thing?

Typical Republican, only thinking something is important if the men in charge get richer.

The London Olympics did a world of good for the country. It brought in a huge amount of tourists, created thousands of jobs which boosted the economy, improved transport links, gave us new modern sporting arenas and the Olympic Villages are being converted into several thousand homes. It's given sport a massive boost countrywide (the archery club near me had over 100 new signups because of the Olympics), including loads of new initiatives and programmes. It may not have made a profit but that's not the point of the games. They were still a major, major success.

Also agreeing with Camilla, I genuinely cannot understand why people are against free health care, aside from the fact you like the idea of your countrymen dying from curable diseases. Surely as a citizen of a first world country accessible health care is a basic right. The fact that people have to choose between feeding their families or getting medical treatment for easily treated diseases is frankly barbaric. It's not like it's a crippling expense either; the UK spends less GDP per citizen than America on health care, and not only that we brought in the NHS right after WW2- right when the country was practically bankrupt and hundreds of thousands were suffering.

Really the only reason I can think people are against it (aside from liking people to suffer and die) is that all the doctors and insurance people who charge outrageous amounts will suddenly make a lot less; and that includes the pharmaceutical companies that are pretty close to the Republican party. So the party goes against it, feeds its supporters fear-mongering bullshit (like that goddamn death panel nonsense) and bam, everyone gets into hysterics over something that shouldn't even be an issue. It's about ensuring that all your fellow countrymen have the right and the ability to lead healthy lives. Why is it even being argued about?

I hope this isn't actually the case, but I can't figure out any other reason you would oppose accessible healthcare.

Please, American right-wingers, explain to me why you think it is a bad thing in a way that doesn't make me think you're evil.

I agree with universal healthcare but Obamacare had to mutate into this abhorrent unworkable garbage just to get a bipartisan majority and pass into law. Instead of being "taxpayer money funds healthcare for all" it's basically "everyone is charged to buy into the same health insurance collective, with the price of care varying based on your income level"

I would only be for losing obamacare if we were replacing it with universal healthcare in the way the other developed nations do it.

Ah, I don't fully understand what happened with Obamacare.

The UK, apparently, has perhaps the best in the way of accessible healthcare in the world (so I learnt at this course last week), and Australia's not too bad either. Seriously, the US should consider looking at the UK and see what they've done.

I am very happy for my tax money to help fund Medicare (Australia's system) if it means that I can afford to visit a doctor.

At any rate, I'm very interested to see what happens with the election.

NARF!

But seriously, I enjoy hearing people's opinions on politics lately. My parents threatened to disown me is I voted for Romney, while my grandparents were trying to sell me on him. My gf's family is entirely Republican, to varying degrees, even if she doesn't even know politics, and her sister is the only one who makes sense when she has her opinions.

And no one takes me seriously when I say I'm voting Gary Johnson. It's not like my vote matters if I vote for Obama or Romney, since New York is being won by Obama no matter what, but I can at least make a statement by voting against the establishment and voting for a candidate who I agree with for the most part instead of the lesser of two evils.
