Weldar's Video Game Music Quiz

Post  Weldar on Mon Jun 06, 2016 8:29 am

Here by extreme popular demand (from people named SnakeInABox) its time for video game music trivia challenge.

The way this works is simple, I have here excerpts from 100 tracks taken from games of some description. There's 3 points to be gained for each song, one for correctly identifying the franchise it comes from, one for the specific game it comes from and one for giving either the name of the track or a discretion of where the track plays (I'll use my discretion for how specific you need to be on that front but may give out half points for being close), send answers in via pm.
So say for example One Winged Angel from Final Fantasy 7 was question, guessing "Final Fantasy VII - Final Boss Music" would net you a full three points while a guess like "Final Fantasy 8 - Boss Music" would still be worth one and a half points since it did at least correctly identify it as Final Fantasy music, but while it is a song that plays during a boss fight its a song that is tied to a specific battle rather than being more general boss music.
Important Note: The 100th song is a bonus question, for this song rather than looking for where it comes from I'm instead after a description of what the song is/what makes it so special, let's say its worth 5 points.

Of course a thing like this is going to be pretty heavily based around I've played, its as much trivia as it is a how many games that Weldar has played have you played challenge. Except mostly Nintendo stuff with a smattering of indie games, still I've made an effort to include a handful of things from games outside that range. I've also made an effort to include a range of songs from classics I'd expect most people to know to some real obscure stuff I don't really expect anyone to get, they are all songs that very much stick out, to my mind at least.

Oh also probably worth noting, while multiple songs from the same franchise do appear no two songs from the same game appear on this list.

Goddammit Weldar, this quiz is making me feel like a filthy casual. I've got 29, it's not even worth sending it in Sad

(also is it wrong I only identified one of them because of a Ronald McDonald parody?)

Naaaaaaaaah, I recognized one because I had an old Playstation 1 demo disc and that one game, with that one scene with that music was on it and I played it. Td may win weirdest reason though, I dunno. I'm told it was an epic reason.

I'm pretty sure I know which one you're referring to. I knew that one partially because of the parody and partially because a friend of mine is a huge fan of the franchise.

Don't feel too bad, I did make this thing skew fairly tough especially in the later songs. Around 30 is about what I expected to average to be really, I'd say send them in anyway you never know how you'll do.

Well I'm down home with a computer for a few days, I beleive Avalanche and Relm are sitting on unfinished answers, you might want to send those in.

Re: Weldar's Video Game Music Quiz

Post  Weldar on Thu Aug 25, 2016 12:38 am

After many delays I finally have a computer again and have stopped playing Overwatch to actually mark this thing, let's see those final standings.

In 6th place, probably on account of the fact he only answered the first 25 questions is Avalanche with 47 points. He did start strong though, being the only person to get all of the first ten songs correct.
Coming in 5th is Raya with 62.5 points
In 4th was Relm with 107.5 points
3rd place went to Sah with 123
TD took a solid second place with 168.5
And in a dominating first place was Camilla with 254 points. She did had some help from her boyfriend however, but there was also just the natural being my irl friend advantage present which helped with being familiar with a lot of my more out there picks. In the interested of science td also phoned in a friend after submitting his answers but that only bumped his score up to around the 200ish range.
An old internet friend of mine from another forum, Murray, also played. He would have placed 2nd in the rankings, dude's a big Nintendo guy which helped a lot.
And now the answer breakdown.

1-10:
1. Super Smash Bros Brawl - Main Theme
I started with the one song I figured everyone here should have been able to get and I wasn't disappointed, you all still remember Brawl at least
2. Mega Man 2 - Dr Wily Stage
Probably the most iconic piece of Mega Man music, and for good reason, this is an excellent final level music.
3. Donkey Kong 64 - The DK Rap
Put your hands together if you want to clap as we take you through this monkey rap. God this song is terrible and stupid, I love it so much. Its actually my current phone ringtone. While not everyone necessarily knew the exact name or game everyone seemed to be aware of this masterpeice of gaming music.
4. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Casino Night Zone
This isn't necessarily the most iconic piece of Sonic music but its always been a personal favourite of mine. Really though I mostly put this here to have an actually good piece of Sonic music the make up for the fact I'm using two terrible ones later in the quiz.
5. Fire Emblem Fates - Lost in Thoughts All Alone
This is basically the main theme of Fire Emblem Fates and plays pretty much everywhere in that game. This was kind of though for an early question but if you had played the game you'd definitely remember it with how often you hear it. I considered using the "you are the ocean's grey waves" part you hear the most but went for a part that had a title drop instead, not that I think it really helped.
6. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Clock Town (Day 3)
This would be a good one for Relm's remix thread, Majora's Mask was full of great touches that added to the atmosphere and the way the Clock Town music got more frantic and ominous as the moon crept closer was one of them
7. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - Snake Eater
Here we have Metal Gear Solid trying to be James Bond with its opening theme. Its also the theme of ladder. This was one of the rare vocal tracks I actually cut off before the name drop.
8. Dr Mario - Fever
I feel like this track is probably more known than the actual Dr Mario games, I blame Smash Bros, that's why I know it at least.
9. Pac Man - Start Music
The shortest track in this quiz but a surprisingly tricky one, a lot of people confused this one for Donkey Kong music which is a fair mix up, when you're talking classic arcade music people would remember its probably one of those two.
10. Super Meat Boy - The Battle of  Lil' Slugger

The first indie game of the quiz, I figured Super Meat Boy was a fair well know one to start with. This was the chapter 1 boss music and if you weren't too great at platformers like me you probably got plenty of opportunity learn this one dying to him over and over

11-20:
11. Super Mario Galaxy - Gusty Garden Galaxy
Pretty much everyone could identifying this as being Mario Galaxy music but a lot of people had trouble picking the actual song which is fair. Galaxy definitely has a distinctive sound and while this is one of the more iconic tracks from it the music itself is a lot more memorable than the level it came from and its shown up in a few other places since like the final bonus challenge level in Super Mario 3D World
12. Bayonetta - Let's Hit the Climax
This was definitely an early stumbling block. Bayonetta's a moderately well known franchise but I guess not a ton of people have necessarily played it, still I'm a total fanboy for Platinum Games so of course I was gonna include plenty of it. This track is usually what plays for the big finishing moves in boss fights, it was also the music used for her reveal trailer for Smash Bros Wiiu/3DS
13. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Pursuit ~ Cornered
Easily the most famous piece of Ace Attorney music. The context of this song is actually quite similar to Let's Hit the Climax, its what plays when you've finally got your opponents on the ropes and things are going your way. Of course in this case you're usually proving a criminal guilty in court instead of murdering a huge angelic monstrosity but still, both manage to feel about is epic in their contexts.
14. Pokemon Red/Green - Lavender Town
This infamous creepy tune is responsible for making some children who listened to it commit suicide, or so urban legend would have you believe. This is the Japanese Red/Green version which is slightly different to the international Red/Blue version of the track (possibly, there seems to be some debate on this fact), but I wasn't going to be so padantic as to mark people wrong for saying Red/Blue which pretty much everyone who knew it did
15. Left 4 Dead 2 - Midnight Tank
With the amount of Left 4 Dead group games played here I figured I had to include something from it. Just the regular Tank Theme would have been too easy though so this is one of the remixes of it that plays in the Dark Carnival Finale.
16. Chrono Trigger - 600 AD
aka Wind Scene aka Yearnings of Wind. These next few questions make up a mini themed block, the theme being some of my all time favourite pieces of video game music. Chrono Trigger's got an excellent soundtrack overall but the peaceful middle ages overworld music was always the standout track to me.
17. Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest - Stickerbrush Symphony
Most tracks in this my favourites section I had a pretty easy time picking, this one though I seriously had to choose between a few different songs from Donkey Kong Country 2, I think it might be the game with my favourite OST overall, in the end I had to go with the classic though. You can find out all about it and its variants over in Relm's remix thread.
18. Mother 1/Earthbound Beginnings - Pollyanna
This track is the Overworld theme for the early game when you don't have any other party members, I believe it appears in all 3 of the Mother games but you might also recognize it from the remix that plays on the Onett stage in Melee, Brawl and Smash 4. The original is good but that Smash remix is the version I really love, it might honestly be my favourite piece of music, not just video game muisc but in general.
19. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Gerduo Vallley
I almost forgot about this song when making the quiz but when I remembered it I had to shuffle things around to put it in the favourites category.
20. Deadly Premonition - Life is Beautiful
The final song in the "Weldar's favourite block". Unsurprisingly not many people got this one, if you've ever played or seen Deadly Premonition you'd probably remember this song, its definitely a tune that sticks out, but not many people have. Its a fairly obscure previous gen title that is honestly pretty bad as a video game, its just so goofy and charming I can't help but love it.
21-30:
21. Sonic 06/Shadow the Hedgehog
Pretty much everyone managed to figure this one out, including the title drop made it way too obvious but its just too hilarious a lyric not to include. Technically this is the Sonic 06 version but the Shadow the Hedgehog version came first and I usually tried to use the original versions of songs in this quiz, the 06 version was just even more hilariously edgy sounding, I accepted either game as a correct answer in this case.
22. Bravely Default - That Person's Name Is
The best classic Final Fantasy that isn't actually a Final Fantasy. This music plays for all the asterisk holder boss fights. Someone did mix it up with one of the character themes that plays after you use a special move which is a mistake I almost made myself, it certainly could be one
23. Xenobalde Chronicles - You Will Know Our Names
Speaking of name related jrpg boss themes, this is the Xenoblade track that plays against unique named monsters. It was also one of the tracks used for Shulk's reveal trailer in Smash Bros, really feeling this one. In hindsight I should have kept this names theme up and used "Don't speak her name" from Fire Emblem next
24. The Binding of Isaac - Jesus Loves Me
Anyone who knows me should've known I'd use Binding of Isaac here. This is an alternate credits track that unlocks after what was initially one of the final goals of the game but now after all the expansions is actually relatively early, you'll probably hear this "alternate" track way more than the original. This was the question that got some of the more interesting guessed answers like Silent Hill,Bioshock or Yume Nikki, I could definitely see it in either.
25. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red/Blue Rescue Team - Boss Battle
Another early stumbling block, probably not too surprsingly Raya and Camilla were the only two to get this one, though Raya did have the wrong mystery dungeon game. Its understandable though, all the games in the series use this boss music just different remixes of it.
26. Persona 4 - Reach Out to the Truth
This is actually just the generic battle music. This was probably the song that people had the most luck with guessing based on the lyrics with reach out to the truth being the most distinctive ones. A couple of people were also able to guess it was Persona based on the japanese sound.
27. Star Fox 64 - Star Wolf
Easily the best Star Fox music in my opinion, went with the 64 version over the original since I figured it was the most iconic. Shoutouts to the Star Fox Zero remix of it though
28. Kid Icarus Uprising - Dark Pit's Theme
Keeping up the rival music here's theme of edgy Pit, say what you will about him and and his inclusion in Smash 4 at least he brought his sweet theme music with him.
29. Doom - At Doom's Gate
Going a bit outside the usual wheelhouse of this quiz here's the classic first level/main theme of Doom, a few people recognized this one.
30. Wii Sports - Title Screen
Come on guys wii sports is the best selling video game of all time surely everyone should remember its theme and didn't just get it because it came free with a wii and stopped playing it after a couple of weeks. A few people got this one, though a couple did mix it up with wii fit.
31-40:
31. Pokemon Snap - Professor Oak's Lab
You were close. This probably should have been later in the quiz for difficulty but still this game was a huge part of my childhood and I had to include it, Camilla and my friend Murray ended up being the only people to know it. Also where's Pokemon Snap 2 Nintendo
32. Splatoon - Calamari Inkantation
Wiu games didn't do too well on this quiz which is fair I guess its not like the console fared too well either, most of the wiiu games only ended up being gotten by Camilla and Murray who as far as I'm aware were the only people doing the quiz who actually own one. Splatoon is Nintendo's biggest new ip since like what, Pikmin, though so td got this one too.
33. Final Fantasy VIII - Shuffle or Boogie
Triple Triad, this is literally all I know about Final Fantasy 8
34. Mario Kart 64 - Rainbow Road

The classic unending ultimate challenge, I mean sure technically there's Mario Kart snes before this but whatever, most people knew this one.
35. Undertale - Dogsong
And now we come to our next themed segment, songs with vocals provided by dogs.
Undertale is a pretty good game with an absolutely amazing soundtrack. Its made by Toby Fox, one of the larger contributors to the Homestuck music team, and say what you will about that comic its soundtrack as consistently excellent. Its easily one of the standout video game osts of recent years and I'd strongly recommend listening to it. The boss music in particular I pretty much struggle to pin down a favourite between almost all of them. So anyway rather than using any of that amazing music here's the silly theme of dogs.
36. Animal Crossing - Rockin' K.K.
What self respecting video game dog themed music round would be complete without so K.K. Slider. This was probably the question I was most generous with the marking, this song has appeared pretty much unaltered in all the Animal Crossing games so just saying Animal Crossing was worth two points. And given that there's over 90 K.K. Slider songs I didn't really expect people to identify a given one by name so I considered just identifying it as K.K Slider music as fulfilling the describing where the music plays requirement for full points (props to Camilla who did identify it as Rockin' K.K)
37. Parappa the Rapper - Chop Chop Master Onion Rap
Probably the Parappinest song in the quiz. I'll admit I've never actually played one of these games, I just used the one song from it I knew to pad out this dog theme. This was the one Relm knew thanks to a ps1 demo disc.
38. Silent Hill 2 - Dog Ending Credits
You'd think the Silent Hill music would be creepy like 24 but nope, dogs. Here's the ending it comes from, pretty self explanatory I think.
39. Super Mario Sunshine - Secret Course
From the bonus levels in Mario Sunshine where you just do regular 3d platforming instead of playing Mario Sunshine. Everyone was at least able to recognize this as being the Mario theme but unfortunately I needed it to be a bit more specific in this case
40. Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire - Battle! Wally
This also probably should have been later with how tough it proved. The gen 3 remakes were honestly kind of disappointments to me after how good the gen 2 ones were but this song and Battle! Zinnia almost make the games worth it alone.
41-50:
41. Portal 2 - Robots FTW
Gotta have some Portal credits music in here, but Still Alive would be too obvious and while Want You Gone is also good Glados singing just gives it away, so we're left with the co op credits music.
42. Mirror's Edge - Still Alive
Portal's Still Alive would be too obvious so here's the other Still Alive, I even put the title right and had it after Portal music to clue you in. Yeah okay this was kind of a troll choice, appropriately it was the question that got the most joke answers. Sah and Camilla knew it though.
43. Street Fighter V - Guile's Theme
This was another kind of mean choice, everyone knows Guile's Theme it goes with everything after all, so the make it a bit tougher I used a newer version. Most people did figure it out (my condolences to Sah who guessed Street Fighter 4 instead of 5). Though a couple got tricked and thought it sounded like Mega Man X music which I could also see
44. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword - Groose's Theme
The best part of Skyward Sword honestly. Sah did guess the Wind Waker pirate ship music, I'd never really realized before but they are quite similar, that song might be the ancestor to Groose's theme.
45. Super Mario Bros 2 - Overworld
John Madden
46. Professor Layton and the Curious Village - Professor Layton's Theme

I was generous again here since I'm pretty sure Layton's theme is the same in all the mainline games though most people guessed Curious Village anyway, this did not prove to be too tough a puzzle.
47. Crash Bandicoot - Main Theme
Stepping out of Nintendo again we have Crash Bandicoot, may his soul rest in peace. I'll admit part of me was just tempted to use the metal remix of Cortex's theme from that one Left 4 Dead 2 map, its honestly the Crash Bandicoot music I most remember now.
48. Final Fantasy V - Clash on the Big Bridge
Forget One Winged Angel why isn't this the big remember piece of Final Fantasy boss music its amazing, I haven't even played the game I just love it. Most people were able to place this as Final Fantasy music but they tended to guess a later installment than just 5, Camilla and Raya knew it though.
49. Kirby Super Star - Meta Knight's Revenge
I almost forgot to include Kirby music in this quiz at first which would've been a huge oversight. While this was originally more of a theme for the Halberd in Meta Knight's Revenge its gone on to become sort of Meta Knight's theme in general, you might also remember it from the Halberd stage in Brawl.
50. The Wonderful 101 - The Won-Stoppable Wonderful 101
This right here is the biggest underrated gem of the wiiu. Also one of the few lyrical songs without a title drop/ Technically this is the epilogue version of the main theme, the original is the Wonderful 100 not 101 and changes some rhymes to match, still I wasn't going to be so mean as to mark people wrong for that discrepancy. Condolences to Relm who clearly knew the game but couldn't remember what it was called and ultimately didn't put a guess down
51-60:
51. Rhythm Heaven Fever/Beat the Beat Rhthym Paraidse - Remix 10
Did you know there's a porn version of this remix, because if you don't the top comment of literally any youtube video about it will be sure to tell you. This is another of Nintendo's underrated franchises, basically Warioware meets rhythm games. The final remixes tend to just be a mashup of all the songs so I used the chunk of it with the wrestler game since that's probably the most famous one, a few people seemed to at least it was rhythm heaven based on that.
52. Banjo Kazoie - Treasure Trove Cove
This was orginally back up in my favourites section but I moved it down to make room for Gerudo Valley, it good to serve as a nice little mid quiz break as things start ramping up
53. Super Paper Mario - Champion of Destruction
This ended up being one of the hardest songs in the quiz, no one but my friend Murray identified it. Even I was slightly wrong about it, I thought this was just the general theme of the antagonist Count Bleck but this is actually a specific mix from the final world.
54. Bastion - Setting Sail, Coming Home
The combination of Bastion's two other lyrical themes, Build That Wall and Mother I'm Here that plays for the credits. This one also got a guess of Silent Hill, getting a diverse range of onions of what Silent Hill sounds like here.
55. Double Dragon Neon - Dare to Dream
Now got a complete tonal shift in credits music here's Skeletor Skullmageddon singing about how you beat him as he falls to his death, Double Dragon Neon is amazing. I included a line that name drops Billy and Jimmy Lee to help people recognize Double Dragon, Sah and td put it together, td even remember Double Dragon Neon was the one with not Skeletor in it.
56. Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations - The Fragrance of Dark Coffee

Time for some smooth jazz. This is the theme for the obligatory rival prosecutor character.
57. Zelda II: The Adventue of Link - Palace Theme
The theme to everyone's favourite Smash Bros stage from everyone's least favourite Zelda game. I honestly think this track is kind of overrated but it is a classic
58. Fire Emblem - Together we Ride

Speaking of Hyrule Temple here's the other song from it, or the Fire Emblem recruitment theme if you prefer I guess. Almost everyone got of these, thanks Hyrule Temple
59. Team Fortress 2 - Rocket Jump Waltz
Much like Left 4 Dead 2 I had to include some TF2 for this forum, pretty much picked a song at random from it, this one's good right?
60. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - Nuclear
This is another one that managed to get some correct guesses based on lyrics. I believe this track was particularly notable for being for being used in the big e3 trailer. I also goes great with anime
61-70:
61. Castlevaina II: Simon's Quest - Bloody Tears
The only song Castlevania got in this quiz and its from one of the poorly regarded games of the series. The song however is excellent and has gone onto be a recurring theme in the franchise so hey.
62. F-Zero - Mute City
Check out Relm's remix thread for the full history of this song, not much to say most people knew this one.
63. Earthbound - New Age Retro Hippie Battle
I was kind of surprised that no one here actually got this one completely right, I thought it was one of the more iconic Earthbound songs. Most people did identify it as coming from the Mother franchise though.
64. Super Mario RPG - Beware the Forest's Mushrooms
A fairly easy one, easily the most iconic Super Mario RPG track. This and the New Age Retro Hippie music were both songs that were falsely rumoured to have been found cut from Brawl by dataminers. While the never made it to a smash bros game proper this one at least got to play in the trailer for Geno's mii costume.
65. Donkey Kong Country - Aquatic Ambiance
Slightly less famous than Stickerbrush Symphony here's another excellent peaceful Donkey Kong country tune. Its a good thing they were so good at making nice calm music because some of these levesl could be infuriating.
66. Jet Set Radio Future - The Concept of Love
Here's one where the lyrics through some people off, understandable enough they thought it was Understand. This is another one of the ones that would have tripped me off, I didn't realise it was Jet Set Radio Future not the original, something that tripped up td too.
67. Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver - Champion Battle
I probably should've used the originals rather than the remake tracks here but I love those remakes too much. True to form for pokemon Raya and Camilla were the ones who got this, though a few people placed it as pokemon. TD got thrown off by the trumpets and thought it was Hoenn music.
68. Golden Sun - Isaac Battle Theme
Td wants anyone who didn't get this to know he's very disappointed in you. Though in the end that only ended up being Camilla and Sah (and Avalanche but he just didn't get that far), so good job Relm and Raya you made td proud.
69. Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story - They're Pretty Tough Should we be Careful?
I'll admit I was really torn between using this or The Grand Finale, in the end I figured the regular boss music would probably be easier but only Camilla got it. Sah was really close with Paper Mario though.
70. Punch Out (Wii) - Soda Popinski's Theme
This ended up being the hardest song in the quiz, no one got any points here except td who I gave half a point for writing Russia. If you listen closely this is actually a remix of the classic Punch Out theme. Punch Out Wii did a lot to add to the character of all the enemy boxers and one of my favourites with giving them all a remix of the main theme in their country's musical style. Looking back though its pretty hard to hear the punch out under all that russian chanting, I probably should have gone with a different character's theme. That said apparently when td showed Minby this quiz he actually got it, though he didn't formally play. He also knew Life is Beautiful so it sounds like Minby might have actually done quite well in this quiz if he did play.
71-80:
71. Katamari Damacy - Katamari on the Rocks
Na na na na na na na na na
72. Shovel Knight - High Above the Land
aka the airship level theme. Td was actually the only person to get this one, though I guess it shouldn't be too surprised it is a fairly late in the game stage theme, just one that really stuck with me personally.
73. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker - Molgera Battle
This is probably the best Zelda boss tune, most people actually got this one. Had to have a really good track before this next upcoming block.
74. Yoshi's New Island - The Yoshi Clan
And now we reach the shitty music block. I can only assume they were trying to recreate the feel of the Yoshi's Island soundtrack here but well... they didn't really succeed, instead they just got the ass band playing them a song of farts to celebrate their failure.
75. Resident Evil: Director's Cut - Mansion Basement
Counting the trend we have... whatever this is. I assume they were going for creepy dissonance but instead it just sounds like the brass section had a stroke. And the Director's Cut has a remastered soundtrack, the original doesn't sound totally fine.
76. Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood - Nocturne
Did you know Bioware made a Sonic rpg on the DS.. its not great. The soundtrack in particular some of the songs are passable but a lot just really drop the ball. This particular track is the standout though, its actually a remix of the Sonic 3 & Knuckles final boss music but they just ended up making it much much worse.
77. Rogue Legacy - Lamprey
And back to good music. This is a pretty fun roguelike castlevainalike, most the indie games at this point I didn't really except people to get but td and Camilla both knew this one. Its the music that plays against the Maya area boss Ponce de Leon (not a lamprey, all the tracks are just named after sea creatures)
78. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 4: Turtles in Time - Sewer Surfin'
Here's one I'm a little surprised ended up so tricky, I've never played this game but I thought it was kind of regarded as a classic. In the end only Relm knew this one.
79. League of Legends - Get Jinxed
On the other hand pretty much everyone everyone got this one too my surprise. Then again I did use a part of the chorus with the title drop, still that didn't always help in other songs, I guess LoL is pretty big though.
80. Ducktales Remastered - The Moon
Here's one of the all time classics on the NES, of course this late the original would be too easy so the remastered edition. Redoing such a beloved soundtrack as quite a task but Jake Kaufman really stepped but to the challenge well, the new version is right up there too.
81-90:
81. Barkely's Shut Up and Jam Gaiden - Main Theme
For a dumb joke game that came from a wikipedia discussion page argument this game is surprisingly good. It legitimately has the best active quick time rpg combat I've seen outside of the Mario and Luigi series, in a free rpg maker game about Charles Barkley. Relm and Raya both got a point for just saying Space Jam for this, technically its the same franchise, the game is canon after all
82. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance - Rules of Nature
This is the Metal Gear game where instead of stealth you're Raiden and just slash the shit out as everything as a cyborg ninja. This is what plays against the tutorial boss, Metal Gear REX. This game does fun stuff with the boss music, they're all instrumental tracks that have vocals kick one once you get the boss down to the final phase.
83. Super Metroid - Ending/Theme of Samus Aran
This was a tough one, its not the most notable song in Super Metroid, I'll admit I mostly remeber it due to its appearance in Smash Bros as Theme of Samus Aran, Space Warrior. Sah and Camilla did place it as Metroid and Relm even recognized it from the Super Metroid opening, where a snippet of the track does play at some point.
84. Skullgirls - The Skullgirl ~ Vs Blody Marie
Like I said the indie games were getting pretty obscure by this point, only Camilla got this one.
85. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - Snowmad's Theme
This is another one no one got in the end, though I like I said I can't be too surprised with the wiiu, this is the theme of the antagonists, the final world and kind of the main theme overall being used in the trailer and intro. I said earlier Donkey Kong Country 2 had my favourite soundtrack in video games but I think it might actually go to this game, they brought David Wise back for Tropical Freeze and he absolutely knocked it out of the park, almost every track is stellar. I ended up listening through the whole soundtrack playlist after making this quiz and I keep going back whenever they pop up in my related videos on youtube.
86. Kirby's Dreamland - King Dedede's Theme
This also could have gone up in my favourites list, though like many of these mostly for the smash bros remix, I might do Dedede's theme in Relm's remix thread actually.
87. Tetris - Type B
Because Type A would have been way too obvious. Still everyone got this one, except td and Camilla who guessed type C instead, bad luck.
88. Conker's Bad Fur Day - Sloprano
Aka the Great Mighty Poo's theme. A few people got this one, because really what other game would have a song about a giant turd threatening to throw shit at you.
89. Pokken Tournament - Magikarp Festival
Not too surprised Camilla was the only one to get this one, hell I haven't even played this game, I only know it because this song was doing the rounds for a while after it came out. Its definitely more intense music then you'd expect from a festival dedicated to Magikarp.
90. Fire Emblem Awakening - Summer Scramble
This steel drum and japanese Chrom remix of the Fire Emblem theme is of course the theme to the Beach Episode dlc there's also a japanese intrsuments, Lucina grunts remix for the hot springs episode. I wasn't sure how many people would get this being a dlc track but td, Camilla and Raya all knew it and Sah was able to identify the Fire Emblem theme in there. The biggest shame of Awakening is they didn't update the vocals of the track for the English release so we could have this song with Matthew Mercer grunts instead.
91-100:
91. FTL: Faster Than Light - Space Cruise (Title Screen)
Another one that no one get in the end, though again I'm hardly surprised. FTL is a spaceship roguelike, the music has a very distinctive style that really works for the atmosphere of a grand space voyage but I'm not sure anyone who did the quiz has even played it.
92. Halo - Main Theme
This is another one I wouldn't have gotten doing this quiz myself, or at least would have struggled with. I always remember Halo having an amazing main theme but not necessarily what is sounds like. Raya ended up being the only one to recognise this as Halo.
93. Banjo Tooie - Weldar Battle
Hey look its that boss I'm named after here. Yeah this was a complete troll pick, I honestly didn't except anyone to get it. A couple of people placed it as Banjo Kazooie boss music, but Camila took it as step further realizing it must be Tooie since Banjo Kazooie had already been done earlier. From there she knew I was named after a Banjo Tooie boss and correctly figured I'd probably be gratuitous enough to use that song.
94. Cho Aniki - Sexy Dynamite
Cho Aniki the (in)famous homoerotic shmup. I'll admit I only know this due to the silly video game wrestling show I watch, which is how Camilla was the only other person to know it too. I'm kind of surprised no one at least guessed Sexy Dynamite based on the lyrics though, guess it just sounded too silly to be the title.
95. Touhou 6: Emodiment of Scarlet Devil - U.N. Owen was Her?
I haven't played any Touhou games but man do they have some amazing music. I figured this was probably the most well know song and seem to have been correct, most people to this one, though often for odd reasons. Here's (I assume) the Ronald McDonald parody Raya recognized it from and td knew it from this tf2 medic parody of said parody.
96. Bayonetta 2 - Moon River (Climax Mix)
I told you I'd be plenty of Platinum in this. Every Bayonetta game uses a cover of some existing song about the moon, once again only Camilla got this, td came close but mixed up with Bayonetta 1's Fly Me to the Moon
97. Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness - Miror B. Battle
I honestly flipped a coin between this and his Pokemon Colosseum theme, should've gone with the Colosseum one.
98. Hatoful Boyfriend - Anghel's Battle
Completely unsurprisingly only Camila got this one. This is the music that plays in the rpg boss fight at the end of one of the routes in this game. There's also this boss track that plays in the final encounter of the ultimate route. Seriously buy Hatoful Boyfriend on steam its amazing.
99. Homestuck - Harlequin (Rock Version)
Wait a minute Homestuck isn't a video game. Yeah but the page this track plays on is an interactive flash minigame, arguably more of a game than some of the visual novels on this list depending on who you ask.
...Yeah this was a bullshit question, I was just trying to be cruel at this point, td was the only one who saw through it and recognized it as Homestuck.
Bonus. Totaka's Song
This is a little tune that Nintendo composer Kazumi Totaka (the man K.K. Silder is named for) hides in various games he works on as an Easter egg. Its appeared all over the place, but the version I specifically used was the Mario Paint one, one of the more well know early cases of it. Sah and Camilla knew this piece of trivia snagged the bonus points.

Ahaha, I suck so badly.

I'm kicking myself over some of these, they seem so obvious now! Were points only awarded for the exact titles? I know on a lot of mine I put things 'boss theme' instead of the actual music title.

Genuinely surprised so few people got Golden Sun; I haven't played the game for about 15 years but IMO it's such a memorable track I recognised it instantly.

Great quiz Weldar, really enjoyed it, even if it did make me feel like a dirty casual Razz

I said the same thing about Sewer Surfin, how did none of you get that? heh, I used to play that so much the moment it started I knew what it was.

I only have one thing to say about this.

Spoiler:

If you don't understand the joke in that spoiler, you need to go play TMNT IV.

Re: Weldar's Video Game Music Quiz

Post  Weldar on Thu Sep 15, 2016 8:06 am

Well I late set of answers that I was even later to mark came through a couple of days after I finished this from Little Crazy Gamer (aka Sah's brother), he managed a very impressive score of 206 shooting him all the way up to second place. He did manage to get Sewer Surfin' and the Halo Theme so those were no longer unique to Relm and Raya, and he impressively actually got Soda Popinski's theme meaning there were no songs that got absolutely zero correct guesses over the whole quiz so very well done.
