TD woke to a gentle buzzing next to him. Despite his phone working somehow in this world, all the apps and such had been deleted. Then, there was that strange moment the day before, where an odd man knew the make and model of his phone, gave him a bunch of app cards, and told him to pick out a few.

I suppose I shouldn't really question a game mechanic... I mean, the three he gave me were an alarm clock, an automatic to-do list that I suppose works like a quest log, and a basic medical reference database... and then there's the fourth one that I can't get to read correctly.

He opened his eyes, and groped around for his phone. Turning off the alarm, he put his glasses on and stood up.

TD ended up bunking with minby for the night, since they knew each other. He was alone in the room.

Minby must have woken up early for a run...

From the room next door, he heard a loud clanging and a shout.

“Wake up! Get up you drunks!”

TD got up off of the floor, and rummaged around in his bags for something to wear. As he heard shouting from the other room, he hurried and stepped out to an interesting scene.

A half dressed Sah was standing in front of his bedroom door with a sheepish look on his face. Raya was beet red in what was either embarrassment or fury.

Or perhaps both... TD silently commented to himself.

Likewise, Ansem had a scowl of rage on his face, and Avalanche seemed to want to be anywhere but at the table between the two. Seeing Camilla and Snake standing off to the side, TD walked quietly around the now-bickering pair at the table to whisper to the two.

"What's the scoop?" He said, out of the corner of his mouth.

Camilla looked at him, then looked back at the main room.

"Sah had a one night stand, Raya swears that she didn't sleep with Av , and flushed when someone suggested it, but Av was quite pleased with himself this morning. Ansem is ready to murder both of them, Raya basically called Ansem a man whore without standards, and hangovers are awful."

TD groaned, and shook his head.

"God damn romance drama... Wonder how long before the shouting kicks someone's hangover in the face... Also, is there any food in this house?"

"Oh, boy," Camilla muttered, upon waking up. She'd never been much of a morning person, but she'd controlled herself the previous night so there was nothing but a little tiredness in her actions. The settings around her, when her head ceased ringing at Minby's pots, caused her to double over in shrieks of laughter. It was always fun seeing the remains of a wild night. Well, it was fun when you were certain that none of it was your fault. She'd previously woken up to empty bottles of $5 wine, wiimotes signifying her poor choice in Mario Kart level (Rainbow Road with wiimotes was always a bad choice, but one so commonly made while drunk), and perhaps a top sinking a little below acceptable level.

Not today, thankfully. Straightening out her tunic, Camilla pulled herself up, ran her fingers through her hair - she'd unceremoniously hacked a great chunk of it off with a blade only a couple of days ago, after it got in the way one too many times- and set to stretching. Since being dumped in to this world, she'd gained a much stronger body. Not as useless as what she had back in real life. She wasn't exactly the strongest, or the fastest, or the most defensive...or the most anything really, but she had something she could work with. She had muscle, for a start. Not anything off putting, but she could lift things, she could kick things, she sure could throw a punch - she had strength, for a change. Beauty and grace, well, she knew she'd never have those. She was never going to be beautiful, and she knew that. With her large nose, badly cut hair, being too big and tall to be liked by people...yeah, she knew that she'd never be a beauty. At least she could hide her true form. And here, she could potentially be strong. She could be brave.

If only she wasn't so useless right now.

Pulling on her boots, she staggered down - running in to Snake as she did so. The two of them exchanged glances and burst out laughing. Last night, at least, had been incredibly interesting. The two of them exchanged a few memories - fairly hazy, admittedly - before stumbling in to the kitchen and seeing Ansem and Raya.

And, despite her laughter, she began to see the true gravity of what the situation was. Especially when Sah walked down with a strange woman. Rolling her eyes, Camilla folded her arms and glared at everyone assembled.

"Are we all fucking well thinking with our genitals, now? Is that it?" She stamped her foot in frustration. Oh, she wasn't jolly anymore. TD appeared in the room, and Camilla quietly, keeping herself in check, filled TD in on what was going on. Romance drama. Romance drama everywhere.

"We're not in high school any more, people. We could be in very real danger, I'm not sure whether to tru- you know what? Fuck it. I'm not going to talk about my worries about our safety to you all," she spat. "When you're done sword-fighting each other with your dicks," she looked at Roy and Ansem at this point, venomously, "maybe you consider the rest of the group and consider the fact that we're supposed to be a team."

With that, she burst out of the room and started running. She'd never be able to run as fast as Minby, she knew - her stats were fairly mediocre across the board. In her mind she envisioned them - highest was attack, then speed, then defence (though they were all fairly close). But with a small depletion from her mana gauge...her attack and defence points could be moved in to speed, and she ran faster and faster until she overwhelmed herself and had to stop. Her points went back to normal, but then she started to punch and kick a tree. Attack shot up, with defence going almost to zero. "Ditto, Zoroark, Shuckle," she muttered, wondering why her abilities were all akin to Pokemon that were fairly useless. Starting to hurt her hands, she sank on to the ground, stretching her legs as she forced her body in to push ups and sit ups. She would never exercise at home. But here she had a body that wasn't completely disgusting to her. And although half her skill came from mastery of her own mind, mastery of her body was important when it was a body that she needed to work with to change.

Speaking of change...she wondered just what she could do. She wondered if she'd ever be able to do anything more with it, like grow wings or something. Focusing on the centre of her back, she imagined a wing growth sprouting from her.

-2

She gave a small shriek in pain. All it was doing was hurting herself. Focus, focus, focus....

-2
-2
-2

Panting, she doubled over in agony, breaking her concentration. No, she still wasn't good enough to do anything. She hadn't been good enough to be killed in Weldar's place, or to save him, and she wasn't good enough to be any credit to their team.

But hey, at least she wasn't fucking anyone.

Staggering back to the group, she forced her breathing to steady as she held the knife in her hand. "Remind me why I'm still alive," she asked, but she didn't wait for an answer. She had to make sure that Raya, Roy and Ansem hadn't killed each other. If they had? Well, she'd just have to kill them again.

"Nice one, guys. Real great job there."

TD had found only mediocre amounts of food in the house, but was managing to cook something with it. After "borrowing" Req to start a fire, he was managing to scrape together some semblance of breakfast. Luckily, there were eggs.

"Bickering and fighting and driving teammates to run away shrieking. Fan-tucking-fastic."

He poked at the eggs with a spatula. He wasn't exactly a chef or anything, but he knew enough about cooking to make something edible.

In the other room, there was still bickering. Occasional snatches of conversation could be heard, but TD was doing his best to ignore it.
"Do you even know... complete stranger..."

"Feelings... bitchy..."

"She had these legs... and then she took..."
"...TMI, dude."

"Nothing... Drinking..."

He didn't need drama. He didn't want drama. And he knew that if he got involved in drama, he was never going to get out of it.

*WHAM*

The door to the house burst open. TD could hear the haggard breathing of someone entering through the kitchen door. Without looking up, he said
"They're all still bickering, and I think I've learned more about what sahrimnir has a thing for than I ever wanted to know. I'm making eggs, if you want breakfast."

Camilla stalked past him, and he could feel how tense she was.

Oh dear... This will not end well...

He glanced over his shoulder, about to ask her a question, but his words died when he saw the knife in her hand.

Turning back to his cooking, TD thought to himself.
This has the potential to get really ugly, really fast...

"If you don't all shut up by the time I count to 10, there's no telling what I might do," Camilla stated loudly, as icily as she could for someone who had just drained a decent amount of HP in pushing herself to the limit. She brandished Weldar's knife carelessly, nearly cutting herself in the process. If there was one thing Camilla was known for, it was for her absolutely foul temper. The noise did seem to quiet down a bit, there was still glances and bickering going on, but not as much as when she walked in. Putting on a smile, she whirled around to face TD. "Oh, eggs would be lovely, thank you! I need some HP recovery."

Dropping the smile, she turned back to the group. "Right, maggots, she yelled, in an impersonation of the Soldier from Team Fortress 2. "Minds off last night and on to the battleground. We're supposed to meet Q's friend today," Camilla began, looking around for Q. "But who knows what will happen? We need to be on our guard, men." She stared down Raya, Roy and Ansem. They were all much more powerful than she was, and not to mention the fact that Raya was older and more of a team leader than herself, but that didn't stop her from attempting to get everyone under control. "And there will be no, repeat, no tomfoolery and canoodling on my watch, IS THAT UNDERSTOOD! You ladies need to get your priorities in order before you can command this squadron, and until that time, you are dis-missed!" Clearing her throat, Camilla slank back, waiting for the onslaught of shit she'd be copping from the group. But hey, at least she could get their minds off last night. And in her mind, she could hear Weldar chuckling at her idiocy. A relieved smile crossing her face, she smugly sat back and reached for some eggs.

Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread - Page 17 Empty Re: Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread

Post  Requiem on Thu Jul 26, 2012 5:50 pm

I hate mornings...

It had been a very long night for Requiem. Incapable of sleep, he'd spent the entire night drinking, long after everybody else had passed out, and after a while it had finally gotten to him. He was rather surprised that he wasn't worse though but he just brushed it off as a racial trait. It seemed like his old traits were amplified when he was brought to this world. His insomnia turned to him not needing and thus being incapable of sleep. His luck was much better than it was before, and apparently his alcohol tolerance was much higher as well.

Trying to be as quiet as possible, Requiem moved across the room full of sleeping people and outside, wincing as he stumbled on something that was lying on the floor. His coordination wasn't the best at the moment apparently. Reaching the door, Requiem pushed his way through, praying that the sound of the wood creaking didn't wake anybody up.

Finally outside, Requiem tried to relax, and hopefully sober up. The morning sun warmed his face as he looked over the town and all of it's people that were stumbling about, trying to make their way to their jobs or running errands, or just doing some morning shopping (Although that seemed to apply only to the ones who hadn't been drinking). These people didn't seem to have that many troubles. It must be nice... Requiem mused, hearing sounds from the inside. People were waking up.

Shaking his head, he made his way inside to check up on everybody. It was a rather comical scene to behold really, and Requiem couldn't help but smirk a bit before making his way to the kitchen area. Upon arrival inside, Requiem immediately found himself being asked to make tea. Chores. Ugh. He groaned and gave a bit of resistance before shaking his head and trying to make some tea, burning half the kitchen down in his effort. Interestingly enough, while using his power, he didn't feel his energy drain, but he was able to focus better. It was sobering him up. A trick he'd have to keep in mind for future occasions. He made his own cup of tea, helped TD make a fire, grumbled about being used as a lighter, and, desiring to get out of the chaos, quickly made his way out of the room, and back outside.

He didn't really feel like getting caught up in some drama. Shaking his head, he walked into town to check out the places he'd won from people. First stop was the item shop he'd won. After asking a few people for directions, he found the place. It wasn't a high class place by any means, just your average shop, filled with herbs and food supplies. He smiled as the previous owner caught sight of him. "Oh, I suppose you're here to boot me out huh?" the man asked in a very angry tone before letting out a heavy sigh, "Can't say I blame you though, I lost the bet after all..."

Requiem shook his head laughing a bit at the way the man was acting. "I'm not going to kick you out at all, in fact I was going to ask if you'd mind continuing to work here, after all, I'm not going to be sticking around much longer. So, work here, take say... 60% of the earnings for yourself, the other 40% for me, after taking into account restocking the place of course. Won't do either of us any good if it goes bankrupt, right?" He asked rhetorically. He knew it was a major pay cut, but it would have to do. Requiem gave a few ideas to the man to make the place a little nicer looking to maybe draw some more customers, and grabbed some food supplies, free of charge of course, before leaving. One shop down, four more to go.

He repeated the pattern with each place that he acquired. The Inn was by far his favourite though. It was a nice place, and he was rather surprised he'd won it. Smiling, he thought back to his time playing Star Ocean 2, forging hundreds of bounced checks so that he could get a deed for the inns. He gave the horses he'd won back to their original owners. They already had horses, and he didn't see the need for more.

Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out the deed that Q had given him. He didn't question why Q was carrying around a deed with him of course. Opening it up, he found himself the new owner of a Casino in Leknaat. He paused at the irony of the Minister of Chance being given a Casino, before wondering why Quaetam even owned a Casino in the first place. It didn't really strike him as the sort of place Q would enjoy. Of course, he didn't know the man all that well either, so he really had no reason to be surprised.

Deciding that everything was in order, Requiem made his way back to where they were staying, hoping that everybody had mellowed out a bit. When he got inside, he noticed the air felt even heavier than before. There was no arguing going on though, so Requiem called it good enough. "So... I brought food." He said, ignoring the fact that TD had made eggs. He reached into the bag he'd been carrying the food in and pulled out an apple, eating it awkwardly, each bite producing a loud crunching noise in his ears that made him paranoid that everybody could hear him chewing.

Post  TD260 on Thu Jul 26, 2012 6:14 pm

snickering at the soldier impression, TD distributed the eggs amongst the party, and handed out cups of coffee and tea again.

He then leaned on the doorframe to the kitchen, and gestured to the empty wine bottles and then to the food.

"Zeh healing is not as rewarding as zeh hurting... Bah. We're going to need all our wits about us, so shake off that hangover and please, for the love of Hylia, don't bicker when we meet the person that may advance our quest."

TD then gestured towards Requiem.

"Come on, share the food, there weren't that many eggs and we're going to need our strength."

He then sat down next to Camilla. Under his voice, he muttered

"Nice going, pardner."

She gave him a blank look, then snorted.

"Engie, right? Eh. I'm just waiting for the shitstorm to hit."

TD shrugged, and looked around the table.

"Honestly, I don't know. You've scared them straight for now. Fear the quiet ones, y'know?"

She gave TD a look, then laughed.

"I am not a quiet one, TD."

TD shrugged again.

"In the purpose of this adventure, you are. The bigger speakers are bickering, and someone that normally doesn't speak up in the group setting suddenly shouting them down, plus the hangover... You've got them calmed down for now. Or at least quiet."

The group ate in perfect silence, the only sound that of silverware on plates.

Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread - Page 17 Empty Re: Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread

Post  Relmitos on Sun Jul 29, 2012 12:40 am

There he was, about to complete the perfect heist. Pockets lined with lots of gold and numerous other trinkets, and there it was. The biggest diamond he had ever seen. After having dismantled the traps and alarms protecting it, Relmitos was an arms length away from the main prize. Reaching out to grab his prize, just a few inches away from having the diamond in hand, suddenly he wakes up in a yelp from Minby waking him up. "Ow, watch where your stepping Minby. You couldn't have waited just a few seconds longer to wake me up? I just got to the best part of that dream. And.....why am I on the floor?"

Getting up to his feet, Relmitos walks into the room with everyone else. Minby walks in with a saucepan and spoon and proceeds to bang them together. Relmitos covers his ears and yells in pain. Minby proceeds to further torture the group by throwing the curtains open. Relmitos closes his eyes to shield himself again, yelling at Minby. "Minby! How have I wronged you?!?!? Why are you doing this to me!?!?! Why do you hate me so?!?!"

Emotion goes from one spectrum to the other, moving from distress to amusement as Requium sets the kitchen ablaze. Relmitos chuckles to himself at the sight of it. It shifts yet again as an argument begins between Raya and Ansem. Relmitos stares at them in bewilderment.

Oh wow.....haven't even been with these guys for a whole day yet, and there's already some drama. Has it been like this the whole time? Hopefully this doesn't become a full blown mess.

Camilla enters the room and sets everyone straight and proceeds to mimic a soldier from TF2. Relmitos facepalms and pretends that never happened. He slinks back into his room to avoid the argument that was brewing and notices all the swag he had stolen overnight.

Really? Even drunk I manage to do that? I'm such the clepto. I've GOT to tone it down a bit. Cripes, all these worthless blades that I can't use, few nifty trinkets here and there, but mostly garbage. Well.....maybe not entirely worthless. Maybe some of the others can use these things.

Relmitos enters the main room where everyone else is and drops a small number of swords and daggers onto the table.
"Anyone want these? I've got no use for them myself, with my prefered weapon being a whip and what not. Feel free to help yourself to em."

Right around then the call for food goes out. With all the quotes from TF2 flying around, he decides to throw in another. In an attempt to sound as much like the warrior from Gauntlet Legends as possible, he says "Food is good!" and proceeds to sit down with the others to dine.

Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread - Page 17 Empty Re: Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread

Post  Avalanche on Sat Aug 04, 2012 11:29 am

Avalanche had no sense of time or direction when he opened his eyes in the morning. He looked around disoriented, almost wishing his glasses came with him to this world, as he tried to figure out where he was and how he got there.
A bed big enough to fit 3 people if they would lay cramped together, a charming room straight out of any fantasy story ever, and a slightly nauseas feeling in his stomach were the first signals that he could comprehend. The first two he came to terms with pretty quickly; he was in an inn, hopefully still in the town he remembered arriving in.
The nauseating feeling……..

Avalanche remembered drinking with Perry. He remembered that he should never, ever drink with Perry. He did recall he had a pretty good time with his faun buddy, despite the odd looks they got.

“So much booze…” he groaned to himself, putting a hand to his forehead. The first thing he felt when trying to get out of bed was the lack of response in his legs. He sat on the edge of the bed and thought to himself.

He remembered walking into Raya. She had been acting odd that evening, but was good company. They walked around town a lot and finally started drinking together. They returned to the inn and…..

“…..Ooooh….” he thought to himself, locating his red cloak discarded on the ground. “Oh.”

Avalanche tried to recall exactly whát happened after they returned to the inn, but he couldn’t recall a thing. And after a short mental self-high-five his mind was preparing worst case scenario’s like a bad habbit.
“God I hope I wasn’t singing again….” He thought to himself. ”As long as I didn’t make too much a fool of myself, it should be fine…Especially back at the inn…..Then again, Raya doesn’t strike as the type to kiss-and-tell, even if I did something stupid.”
He put his cloak back on, and grabbed his staff from the corner of the room before heading downstairs to join the rest for breakfast.
“I really didn’t intend to have a one night stand….” He continued moping to himself.”If that is even what happened. Raya is a great girl and everything, but getting to know her first and stuff, getting used to our new setting…..Would have been preferable. I’m a look-before-leaping guy after all”
He leant against the wall, his legs were still wobbly and the stairs were looking dangerous. He refused to let it keep on happening.
“Would it be that bad though?” he continued to muse as he heard the voices of the rest of the group.”We have some things in common, she’s clever and defiantly not bad looking…..Who knows, maybe something will actually grow from this. It actually sounds…..kinda nice.”

Avalanche stretched himself lazily. In all the commotion he didn’t even realize that this was the first night since he got here that he actually got a good night’s sleep. He felt rested, and had the feeling he had access to more mana (or whatever counts as energy) then before. He made a mental note to buy a bottle of strong liquor to drink himself to sleep more often.

He couldn’t help but smile like an idiot at this revelation when he walked into the common room for breakfast.

Then Camilla started speaking in her soldier voice………His happy high replaced by the sober hangover again.

Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread - Page 17 Empty Re: Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread

Post  Raya on Sat Aug 04, 2012 2:07 pm

Spoiler:
Dammit Av, you made it sound so bad there Razz Embarassed

After three cups of tea Raya was starting to feel slightly more human. Her hangover was absolutely awful and no amount of caffeine was going to stop her brain feeling like cotton wool or her throat feeling like a small furry animal had crawled down it and died. But at least she was slowly feeling like she was part of civilised society again.

Steadfastly ignoring both Avalanche and Ansem she flicked her gaze around the rest of the dishevelled bunch. Most weren’t making eye contact. She knew full well what they were thinking, assuming the worse/perverse about her and the white mage. Well she was not that sort of girl thank you very much; she was perfectly capable of keeping her clothes on around people from the internet and nothing adult had happened. Okay, maybe a little bit of making out had occurred (which she was certainly not happy with herself about), but nothing further. She didn’t bother to raise any objections because she knew that would just make things worse. The lady doth protest too much after all.

The atmosphere was dreadful. She could tell most of them had realised something drama-filled had happened and were dying to know, but she certainly wasn’t going to air dirty laundry here and now. Ansem was glowering at her and she pointedly ignored him. She knew why he was pissed; his little scheme hadn’t worked and now his precious ego had been bruised. Well, fuck him. He had no right to be angry after what he’d done to her. That he’d even think to do such a thing was appalling. Well stuff it, he could go to hell, that emotion-twisting bastard. Aside from a few snide comments she wasn’t even going to give him the time of day.

Any brewing arguments were quickly shut down as Camilla burst in and began ranting. Not being a player of TF2 Raya had absolutely no idea what she was going on about at first, assuming the Aussie had gone slightly mad or was still drunk before twigging it was a reference to something or other. She considered protesting but decided she was still several cups of strong black tea away from being able to maintain a coherent argument. Instead she took the berating in silence until thankfully TD arrived with plates of food.

She reached across for a plate of breakfast and paused, looking at her hand in puzzlement. Last night after seeing Ansem with those girls she had shattered the glass she’d been holding, the shards lacerating her palm. She distinctly remembered the pain and blood, though at the time she’d been too furious to pay much attention. Looking at her hand now there was no sign of injury. No scars, no broken skin, nothing. She checked her other hand just in case she was being an idiot and got them mixed up. Nothing. Huh. Actually, come to think of it she didn’t remember her hand hurting whilst she went out drinking either. Or anybody healing it.

She shook her head, got her breakfast and gratefully took a bite. Nothing like a good breakfast to kick a hangover in the balls. She’d never noticed how absolutely starving she was. Come to think of it, she hadn’t eaten since-

She gagged as the egg in her mouth turned into warm flesh and she forced herself to swallow, pushing the plate away as her appetite suddenly vanished. She looked to see if anyone had noticed and found Perry watching her suspiciously. She wrongly assumed he was thinking about her and Avalanche (“If you hurt him I will break your legs”) and glanced away. There was probably going to be some uncomfortable questioning in the future.

The smell of breakfast was still making her nauseous and she was beginning to feel awkward. She slid her chair back and stood up, all eyes immediately turning on her.

“I’m going to have a shower,” she said simply, leaving the room. She hadn’t even passed through the door before she heard the whispers begin behind her. Oh, great. Now the gossip was starting. Wasn’t that going to be fantastic.

Retrieving a towel from a cupboard she turned to find Quaetam in the corridor, having followed her unoticed. There was a look of concern on his face.

“Raya, are you alright?”

Lovely, she knew where this was going. “I’m fine, Q. What’s this about?”

Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread - Page 17 Empty Re: Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread

Post  Fedaykin on Fri Aug 17, 2012 1:43 pm

"Now that's just great. What an entire army couldn't achieve literally, a bunch of hormones did. Split the group in two. I know, that it's emotions that make us human, but damn, sometimes they're just a royal pain in the ass. Well, if there is any upside to this, I have the best seat in the house to enjoy the ride. Go on, my minions, your master demands more soap opera!"

Fedaykin watched the scene unfold silently, feeling even less comfortable in his skin than usual. Requiem setting the kitchen on fire had been slightly amusing, luckily he hadn't hit something more explosive...or the Zombie. You could almost see the daggers flying between Ansem and Raya, with some occasional mindstabbings of an oblivious White Mage and the local representitives of Shipping Inc., having way too much fun by the looks. "Not helping, guys, adding insult to the injury. You all have seen each other in combat, we're all armed to the teeth and in a foul mood. Yeah, bright idea." At least TD had enough sense to trying to pacify and distract them with food, while the Lich sat there tense, ready to jump up and knock out anybody, who might decide to be stupid. Camilla's reentering the scene with her Soldier act didn't qualify as such and for whatever reason, people stopped bitching and focussed on eating. Requiem had somehow managed to bring more food and to Fed's huuuge surprise, there was nothing there for him. Not that he needed anything, the blood in the drinks had silenced the Hunger, but it would have been a nice gesture. Then again, his table manners or the lack thereof wouldn't have helped defusing the drama at hand.

As the impending violence started to vanish, Fedaykin finally eased up a little, reflecting on the night he had had. After unsucessfully attempting to get hammered and the talk with Quaetam, his mood for partying had hit a low. He didn't need to be drunk to enjoy himself, but as true native of his country, the taste of beer helped getting the dance juices going. So once more, he had retreated to the shadows of a nearby barn. He made himself comfertable on a hay bale, watching the festivities from afar, the music faint in the air. What was up with him, did he turn into a loner? Usually he'd be in the thick of it, enjoying himself and not giving a damn about how stupid he looked while doing it. But now, the only dance fitting for him was the Thriller and he didn't even particullary like that one. Suddenly, he felt a tiny bit of weight on his lap. Curiosity had led a brave little kitten to him, sniffing the strange creature's smell. Apparently it was not offending the pocket tiger's senses, as it made itself comfortable on the Zombie's lap, purring as the lonely man carefully caressed it. Not long after, the kitten's siblings showed up, joining in.

Fedaykin had stayed there for most of the night, dumbstruck by the lack of fear of him and the feeling, that somebody didn't mind his condition, showing affection regardless. Happiness, he had almost forgot, how that felt like.

Snapping back to reality, he saw Perry moving graciously like a tank towards his room and belongings, mumbling incoherent spouts of crazy.

"I guess I should check on him, just enjoy your breakfeast"

The Zombie carefully approached the room, opened the door just a notch and looked through the gap. Not seeing his friend, he drew the door slightly more open, popping his head in for a better look. From all the possibilities that had went through his mind, he hadn't anticipated this scenario. Perry was cowering in one corner, arms wrapped around his knees and slowly rocketing back and forth, glaring at his axes in the other corner. A single tear ran down his cheek, his expression filled with anger. What in the world...?

Fedaykin knocked, waiting on a response. Perry didn't even react. Another knock, louder. The faun couldn't care less. With a sigh, the Lich decided to enter, closing the door behind him and walking slowly towards his friend, coming to a halt next to him.

"Perry? You alright, dude?"

Silence.

"Dude?"

"I... I just don't understand...", his voice a grief-riddened croak. "I mean I...I...just don't GET it... Dude, what did I do wrong? Did everything... BUT LOOK AT THEM!"

"Perry, calm down, there's nothing wrong with your axes, they..."

"MY AXES ARE BITCHES!"

"...what?" Fed's puzzelement reached soaring hights.

"Can't you see? Are you seriously that blind? They keep hitting on other people!" Perry literally spat those words out. His glare was so intense, even Batman would have fled. "I cared so much for them and that's how they thank me! Why don't they love me, Fed? I always keep them sharp, I work the shaft..."

In a sudden outburst of emotion, Perry threw his arms around the Undead, almost crushing him, sobbing heavily. For the first time, Fedaykin was glad that he didn't need any oxygen anymore. It took the Lich a great amount of effort to pat his friend on the shoulder.

"There, there, it's gonna be alright... let it all out, no need to be ashamed... Dude, you didn't do anything wrong, you know. It's in their nature to hit on things, that's normal for them..."

Suddenly, the sobbing stopped. "Dude, are you dissing my axes? Not cool, man". Perry pushed the Zombie away, all the way back into the door.

"You're not helping, Fed!"

"But..."

"No! Go away, Fed! Go AWAY!" He returned into his cowered position, glaring at the axes again.

"Well, have it your way!" Fedaykin left the scene, but with a plan in mind.

A couple of minutes later, Perry still hadn't moved, unhappy with this wierd love triangle he was stuck in. Suddenly, he was repeatedly hit in the face by two big splashes of water. Confused, he looked around, seeing the Lich standing there, empty buckets in hand.

"Sober up, you drunkard, we're leaving soon." Fed gave him a smile, turned around and left.

Post  Quaetam on Sun Aug 26, 2012 1:10 pm

“Raya, are you alright?” Quaetam asked slowly, unable to fully mask his concern.

He stood in the center of the corridor, at a small landing. Raya was across the hall, still framed in her doorway; hand on the edge of the open passage as she looked towards her companion. Her expression was hard, set; her visage seemed reserved, restrained. She held herself strong; she held herself proud. Yet her eyes, in the brief moment she met his, were in complete contrast to her body language, filled with emotion. Just as it had been two nights prior, in his Leknaat manor, her countenance was controlled, silent, a stiff façade bereft of sentiment, but her gaze betrayed her true feelings.

He saw in their depths a sea of frustration, of anger, and something akin to bitter regret, yet more emphatic, less submissive. It was a look he knew well, a sentiment he was all too familiar with. That hard, controlled expression, he had seen in her before… that bitterness, that frustration, he had shared with her. In many ways, they weren’t so different, she and he, Quaetam noted with irony.

“I’m fine, Q,” Raya said stiffly, breaking their eye contact, breaking their silence, looking not at the Hierophant now, but at a fixed point on the wall to his left.

“You don’t look fine,” Quaetam said, moving slightly, trying to meet her gaze. She turned slightly away, and Quaetam backed off, waiting for a response. But none came; Raya stayed quiet. His thoughts wandered once more into the realm of speculation, his mind once more entrenched in layers of brooding thought, yet he remained cautious in his approach.

“You don’t have to hide this, Raya,” Quaetam said, emphatic, “I’m concerned for you, I care about you, we all care about you.”

Raya sighed, shook her head… “I’d rather not talk about it…” she said.

And the truth was, she wasn’t ready to talk about it, wasn’t ready to face it. She had messed up, badly. This sort of thing, this sort of issue… It wasn’t something they could laugh off together. It was complicated. Peoples’ feelings would be hurt, the entire party would be in jeopardy. The only thing keeping her afloat right now was her mission, her goal. She couldn’t afford to face what had happened, not yet; she couldn’t afford to collapse now, when what they needed most was to keep the party together, to keep them all moving. She wasn’t ready. And… from Quaetam of all people, she couldn’t face his judgment on what she’d done.

“Banter about a white mage who genuinely cares about you, Raya?” Quaetam pressed, hiding his exasperation, “I saw the way you and Ansem talked. And that rant, of Camilla’s…”

He paused for a response, only half expecting one. Raya said nothing, and he continued,

“Raya. People are going to start assuming things; hell, they’ve already started. Quite a lot can be gathered from what happened this morning, from what happened last night. They look to you as a leader… you said yourself that they chose you unanimously,” Quaetam said, soft, sincerely, as he implored his friend to speak, “You get a lot of attention here, among the group. I don’t know if I can help you… I don’t know if you WANT me to help you, but I’d like to try. I’m concerned for the group, and more, I’m concerned for you. You can trust me.”

“You mean like how Damian trusted you?” Raya scoffed, bitterly.

Quaetam recoiled, clenching his fist slightly, visibly struck by her verbal blow. He fell quiet, and silence reigned between them. Raya, standing in the doorway still, continued to look past him, to gaze at the wall. The Hierophant looked toward the floor, his own bitterness incipient upon his thoughts. Of course it would all come back to this. Even now, he was a murderer, after all. He had killed two of their own, never mind the circumstances, and despite everything, despite all his efforts, the others still avoided him, still flitted around him like he were plagued. Such wounds would take time to heal, of course… such pain, such loss, was not easily forgotten. But it was clear to him, by Fedaykin’s condemnation, by Raya’s bitter retorts, that he had, utterly and completely, lost his trust among them.

Yes, they valued him not for his companionship but for his strength, his position in Leknaat. He had known it from the start, he had known that while he bunked with those he considered friends, he would never be counted as one among their number. He was here, almost exclusively, as nothing but a weapon, as raw power, as political leverage… It seemed he would never be allowed to forget that.

Quaetam turned to walk away, seeing little purpose in continuing, enraptured in his own frustration, and Raya spoke.

“God, I’m sorry, Q…” she sighed, her voice a mixture of frustration and sympathy. Quaetam turned around, crossed his arms, facing her, his expression colder than he would have liked, and once more met her look. Her façade held strong still, but her frustration was plain across her gaze.

“I just… I try so hard to keep everyone together, you know…” she said, “I just want to be a good person, to do the right thing, and now I’ve gone and bloody fucked it all up.”

As she finished her sentence, she shook her head, and he could see, in her eyes, just as he had a night ago, the shimmer of barely restrained tears. Again he noted, with respect, her surprising strength, the sheer vehemence of her resolve.

Quaetam nodded, maintaining his eye contact, “You and me both, Raya…”

She again shook her head, this time looking away, running her hand down the doorway, feeling the grooves of the wood, the smooth architectural cut, as if to distract her from the issues at hand, before continuing,

“At least you thought you were doing the right thing… at least you had the greater good in mind. There’s no forgiving me for this one.”

Quaetam chuckled slightly, “And there’s forgiveness out there for me? Mistakes are mistakes, Raya. The consequences of my actions stand apart from my intent. I cannot deny what I’ve done, nor, I expect, will I ever forget it, ever be able to live it down.”

There was a brief pause, silence reigning over them once more, each of the Champions filled with regret at their own deeds, at their own crimes. Quaetam stood enshrouded by the past, enraptured by his unforgivable acts, unable to forgive himself, unable to forget what he had done, unable to cleanse his hands of the blood that had stained them forever, knowing that all he had to hang on to was his purpose, his goal. Raya shook beneath the weight of things yet to come, seeing before her eyes visions of peril, of failure, thinking of the one who had wronged her, the one she herself had wronged in turn, of how her actions, more befitting of a bloody schoolgirl than a grown woman, could doom them, and destroy that very purpose. And slowly, as she examined what could come of last night, as she thought of their future, thought of what may come to be, it dawned on her… Silence would help nothing. The party could fall apart because of her actions. If she sat back and did nothing about this, friendships could be ruined, their quest, lost.

Finally, the silence was broken, as Raya spoke, her words slow, deliberate, carefully chosen so as to not betray her thoughts.

“You mentioned consequences…” she said, looking towards Quaetam, “You know how a stone thrown into water creates bigger and bigger ripples as its consequences pan out?”

Quaetam recognized the care in her words, the attention given to every syllable, as he responded, also calculating, careful in his approach.

“Yes…” he said, meeting her gaze.

“Let’s hope the stone I threw isn’t going to be fucking huge,” she said.

Quaetam locked onto her gaze, his eyes sharp, reaching past her façade, attempting to reach the emotions buried within. He could gather much from what she had said, many things that might have grievous implications, but knew better than to assume. Whatever had occurred, whatever she had done, he had to hear it from her before making any assumptions, any rash decisions. She maintained eye contact, yet continued to shield her emotions. Whatever tears had been in her eyes before were gone now, subdued beneath her strength of will, as she looked eye to eye with the Hierophant, with her friends’ murderer, with the man who now sought to help her.

“…Raya,” Quaetam said after a brief moment, again careful in his approach, “What happened last night?”

She shook her head, at last looking away, “Stupid, bad things…”

Quaetam paused briefly, letting his arms fall to his sides. He couldn’t take that route, press more and she might retreat behind her wall again. Thinking carefully for a moment, he reworded…

“Actually, let me rephrase that… What happened to you last night?”

Sure enough, Raya fell silent, looked away. She knew she had to talk; she knew she could not afford silence… someone had to know about this. But… thinking about what she’d done, about what had been done to her… the implications were too much, her shame was too great. She didn’t know how he would react to what she had to say, she didn’t know how he would view her… there was just as much chance he would condemn her as understand her, after all. There was too much of a risk. Best to play it off, to deal with it on her own… it was too early to talk about something like this so flippantly.

“Raya, I can tell something is wrong,” Quaetam said, insistent, his expression delicate, his voice soft, “You know I’ve played enough mafia to read between the lines. I’m worried about you.”

Yet she knew the importance of letting someone know, the importance of explaining things, before it fell out of her control completely. And he was worried about her, he did care, that much she could tell…

He saw something give way within her, some sort of internal barrier at last allowed to collapse, or, at least, to withdraw slightly.

“I screwed up,” she said, “I thought I knew someone, thought I could trust them, but I let my guard down, and…”

Her voice trailed off, as she hesitated… She remembered the sincerity in Ansem’s words, how sweetly he had talked to her, how sincere he had been in his admonitions… and how he had duped her, played her like a fool, promised her something he never intended to deliver. She was an idiot to have succumbed to his ways. And what she had done to Avalanche was no better… She wasn’t ready to share this, not now. She could picture the look on his face when she told him what she’d done, the look on all their faces. It wasn’t a good one.

She shrugged, her voice wavered slightly as she continued, “Turns out I was wrong…”

Quaetam saw her pain, saw her reticence to divulge what had taken place, and nodded in understanding. Piecing several things together, he had an idea, if a vague one, of what had taken place. If he was right, it wasn’t pretty… He fully understood her concern, and held her a great deal of sympathy. He reached forward, placing a hand on her shoulder. She raised her eyes and met his gaze. Yet no tears fell, despite her pain, despite her frustration, and again Quaetam couldn’t help but note her admirable strength.

“Everyone lets their guard down sometimes, Raya. Everyone makes mistakes,” said Quaetam, again with sincerity, “It’s not something you should fault yourself for… whatever happened will heal with time.”

And Raya smiled, sad, but sincere, in full appreciation of his words, even if she didn’t believe them herself.

“Thanks, Q…” she said, before stepping back, “Now, as much as I like standing in the landing, talking to you, do you mind if I go have my shower now?”

Quaetam smiled, nodded, stepping out of the way himself.

“My apologies, go right ahead.”

Raya walked away, briskly, leaving a troubled, concerned Hierophant in her wake.

Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread - Page 17 Empty Re: Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread

Post  Raya on Sun Aug 26, 2012 2:46 pm

The previous night…

In the dark forests of Mousillon the hunt was on.

Hulking shapes flickered between the trees like shadows, lithe in spite of their size. Lean and athirst they swept through the black woods, nary a twig snapping underneath their swift tread. In silent communication they moved onwards, coming to a halt at an unspoken command on the edge of a rise. Concealed by the undergrowth they looked down upon their prey. An army camp, nestled within a clearing, the orange glow of the campfires fragile and weak against the darkness that crawled from the world around it.

Michael Vinters drew back his lips and bared his teeth in a savage smile.

He was a hulking beast, easily seven feet tall, broad of shoulder and heavy of head. Thick grey fur covered his frame, his long tail lashing with anticipation of slaughter. He was a werewolf, the lord of the dark forests, and now there were intruders into his domain.

He had heard the stories, spoken by the terrified peasantry in their boarded-up taverns. Of a dark army that had swept in from the south, smashing Mousillon’s standing army and driving off the ruling family. That the army was led by four generals under the command of a greater warlord, and that one of them was here to take control of Mousillon for who knows what ends.

Michael did not care for the humans and their squabbles. He cared not for the rulers nor of their army. His dreams were loftier, his ambition far grander. For he was to be a Kaiser, a king amongst kings, alpha of all the werebeasts in the lands. Already his territory was vast, encapsulating the wild mountains and forests of his native land, and soon would come the time to seize that held by the humans. Mousillon would be his and the forests would fill with the screams of the human cattle as the endless hunts turned the ground slick with blood. He would take a ledrene and sire a dynasty that would never be broken, one that lorded with an iron grasp over all lands beneath the moon.

And this Nameless Army dared to challenge his rightful destiny.

He could sense the rest of his pack moving within the shadows. Most were like him, terrible hybrids of man and beast, yet some were dire wolves, drawn beneath the leadership of the mightier werewolves. They were larger, more savage, more intelligent than their lesser kin. And much more expandable than a lupine.

A pack did not function without its alpha. An army did not function without its general. The plan was simple. Go in, kill the general. The army would scatter and this threat to his dominance would be eliminated. He would kill the general himself, tear him limb from limb, devour his flesh and heart and make his strength his own.

Michael gave a growl and the pack made its move.

They flowed down the slope and sprinted towards the camp. Two dire wolves leapt at the guards on the gate, tearing out their throats before they could even make a sound. The pack entered, dashing between the rows of tents, ears and eyes alert, guards and witnesses pulled down and slaughtered before they could begin to cry a warning. It was childs play for such efficient predators and within mere minutes they had cleaved a bloody swathe through the camp, mutilated corpses in their wake. They approached the heart of the camp and to his great delight Michael saw his quarry. The general was in the wide open ground in the centre of the camp, alone save his personal retinue of guards. This was almost too easy. The pack cleared the distance in an instant, ripping apart the guards before they could raise their weapons to defend themselves. The general strangely didn’t panic and bolt at the sudden slaughter. Instead he held his ground and slowly turned towards them.

“I’ve been expecting you. You’re late.”

Michael could have laughed. This was the general of the so-called mighty army? It was a wizened old man, leaning heavily on his staff. The senile old fool wasn’t even armed. Pathetic. He bared his teeth and lunged forward.

The ground erupted as spikes of dark energy burst forth, impaling the pack and thrusting them high, squealing and thrashing like skewered pigs. Michael dodged and twisted out of the way of spikes with supernatural swiftness, skidding to a halt with a sharpened black tendril millimetres away from his eyeball. The old man smiled.

“You dogs have no manners. Nothing but animals.”

Michael glanced at his packmates. They were suspended in the air on the dark spikes, whimpering in pain and writhing to get free. He could see their regeneration struggling and failing to repair the wounds and realised that none of them had been speared fatally. It was deliberate. He turned and stared at the general, realisation of the terrible power he held slowly dawning on him.

“I am Ernstrad,” said the old man “And I know very well who you are, Michael Vinters. Self-styled lord of the beasts, the most ambitious werecreature under the moon. I’ve been waiting to give you an audience.”

This had all been a trap! They hadn’t been hunting down the Army and successfully broken into camp, Ernstrad had known they were coming and had let them in! Michael nearly dropped into a bloody frenzy at the realisation but kept himself in check. To lose control would mean his death. And that control was what had made him the undisputed alpha.

“What do you want?” asked Michael sullenly, the words thick and heavy from his lupine mouth.

“I know of your skills. I know you and your pack are the greatest hunters in Mousillon. So I want you to do what doggies do best: play fetch.”

“We are not your servants!” snarled Michael.

“Working for me would be of great benefit to you,” said Ernstrad with a sickly smile “My master’s forces will tear apart the Northlands. This is inevitable. But he does not seek conquest like a petty tyrant. No, he wants something much, much more. And so the lands shall fall to myself and my fellow generals. Yet I do not care for kingdoms and wealth, all I seek are the resources for my experiments.” Ernstrad fixed him a hard look “Work for me and this land will be yours. All of it under your domain. The start of your lycan empire.”

Michael bared his teeth in an unamused smile “You’ll kill us if we refuse, won’t you?”

Ernstrad laughed “Clever boy! You learn quickly. So, what will you choose, glory or death?”

Michael weighed the argument in seconds. As powerful as he was, he knew Ernstrad could kill him with a flick of his wrist. The dark magic he possessed…this man had power and was not afraid to use it. But yet his offer was tempting. If the stories of the Army were true, if their dominance of the Northlands was inevitable…perhaps it would be prudent to ally with the winning side. And there were always options once his power base was established…He glanced at his pack, who despite their incredible pain were still paying attention, and made his decision “What do you require?”

Ernstrad held out his hand and a glowing ball of white energy appeared. He stepped towards the werewolf who sniffed the ball.

“White magic.”

“Pay attention to the signature. I want you to track down this white mage. He has the potential to grow into a great threat. I want you to find him and bring him to me.”

“Alive or dead?”

“It makes no difference. I can get my answers either way.”

There was something about the sinister glee on Ernstrad’s face that sent a shiver down even Michael’s spine. The white ball flickered and turned black.

“I require you to hunt down this one too.” It was the acrid smell of Taint, dark magic. Ernstrad continued “I believe the dark mage is travelling with the white one. Unusual I know. This one I insist you bring to me alive. Not necessarily in one piece, but alive nevertheless. Do you understand?”

Michael did not debase himself with an acknowledgement “And what if these mages have other companions?”

“They are irrelevant. Do with them what you will.”

A savage grin appeared unbidden on Michael’s face. With a snap of his fingers Ernstrad dismissed his spell and the tendrils vanished, the pack collapsing to the ground. They shakily picked themselves up, wounds struggling to heal against the dark magic, staring warily at their new benefactor.

“Now my pets,” spoke Ernstrad “Go and track me down some mages. If you succeed power beyond your dreams will be yours. Your pack shall rule this land for eternity. Fail, and…”

He did not finish. He didn’t need to. Across the dark night a chorus of howls carried on the still wind.

A new hunt had begun.

--------------------------

Back in Leknaat…

The group left the townhouse and emerged into the warm morning light. It was going to be a beautiful day, though the hungover amongst them were wishing the sun wasn’t so goddamn bright and the birds weren’t singing so goddamn loud. They made their way through the streets towards their rendezvous with Arden, meandering around the detritus of last night’s festivities. Paper bunting, empty bottles and the occasional unconscious drunk were strewn about and save from the town guard and a few people doing the Walk of Shame the streets were mostly empty. Obviously everybody was still sensibly in bed recovering from the previous night.

They found Arden waiting for them by the fountain along with some wagons and armed mercenaries. He saw them and went towards them, arms wide.

“My friends! Oh ho, you all look worse for wear. Enjoy the festivities last night?” There were some mutterings in reply and Arden laughed “That’s how you tell you have a good night, when in the morning you are like this!”

Quaetam smiled at his infectiously cheerful friend “It was interesting to say the least.”

“Oh ho ho, and you my dear Hierophant, I hope you have not been chasing the ladies! My daughter is the one you need to be siring children with, not floozies on the street, eh?” Quaetam stammered in embarrassment and Arden laughed, slapping his back “I joke, I joke! Now then my friends, are you ready to depart? We have a big journey ahead of us!”

“What’s our plan?” asked Quaetam, climbing into the wagon alongside Arden.

“You plan on heading to the Isle of Bones, no? Then we head to fishing village by river, I have transport there.”

“And the armed guard?”

Arden’s smile faded “You should know the dead do not lie easy in those parts you wish to travel to, my friend.”

Quaetam did not reply.

--------------

They quickly made progress and within a few hours had reached the village. Their method of transportation was soon made obvious; the river was full of barges and ships, ferrying cargo and passengers up and down the river. As Arden explained he’d hired a ship and crew to take them down the river than across the great lake to the island.

“We’re going on a boat?” asked Raya, looking distinctly uncomfortable.

“How else do you expect to get there? Fly?”

“Magic?” she asked, looking vaguely hopefully at Quaetam. Quaetam raised an eyebrow.

“Don’t like boats Raya?”

“I’m not a fan let’s say.”

Sailors were milling back and forth, sullenly preparing the ship for launch. TD caught the suspicious glances thrown their way.

“They don’t look happy.”

“They wouldn’t be,” Arden shrugged “The Isle is a terrible place. They say all who go never come back, that terrible things lurk in the mists. It took a lot of gold to overcome their superstition, let us say. Also, they have new boss now. Crew say captain lost deeds to their company last night in poker game.”

There was a second of silence before Requiem groaned and slapped a hand to his forehead.

“Oh for…”

Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread - Page 17 Empty Re: Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread

Post  Fedaykin on Tue Sep 11, 2012 2:08 pm

"Eine Seefahrt die ist lustig, eine Seefahrt, die ist schön...", hummed the Zombie, lost in thought as he watched the dark blue waves rolling by, leaning on crossed arms on the rail. It had been ages since he had been on a ship, but that had been out of metal. It also had had an engine, unlike this vessel, that relied on the favour of capricious winds, tricky currents and sometimes raw manpower. All the sailors had arms like a spinached-up Popeye, but the fowl mood of Bluto. They all looked quite unhappy in their skins, working for such strange folk to get to a terrible destination, despite the generous pay they had been offered. What's all the gold in the world worth, if you go down to Davy Jones and can't spend it? Also those freaks had brought women on board. With that kind of atmosphere, filled with tension and superstition, Fed hoped the journey would be over sooner than later.

Apparently, one of his comrades felt the same. Closer to the bow, Roy stood in a similar pose, sporting a similar expression. They hadn't really talked after the Lich's incredibly sound, intelligent and wonderful plan to kill the demon had worked so amazingly well. Not that he wanted to brag about it... he couldn't even finish the sentence with a straight face in his mind. Well, that needed to change. Whistling a cheerful tune, he strolled over to the his friend, as casually as the swell allowed it.

"Sup, Roy?"

"Huh?" The Mage looked up in surprise, not expecting a random encounter. "Oh, hey Fed, not much. Sup with you?

"Not much either, but figured that this would be the perfect opportunity to scold you."

"Wait, what? Sense, you make none?" Roy's confusion just added to the Undead's amusement, his smile broadening even further.

"Your lack of faith is disturbing. Yes, I'm talking about my brilliant plan to slay Slugathor back in Ashvald's mension. You still haven't admitted, that it worked and how spectaculary awesome it was." Fed was grinning from one side to the other by now.

"Oh fuck you, Feday, the fact that it worked doesn't make it any less stupid. Are you done with bragging?"

"Oh sheesh, man, you're no fun."

"Yes, totally. If there was a trope about killjoys, it'd be based on me. It's my secret superpower." There was the vaguest hint of a smile on Avalanche's face, a rare sight.

"Eh, I bet we all have a patron superhero now with all those powers we have. Justice League Dragnia, how does that sound?"

"Ridiculous and you know it, Feday. Though I guess Minby would work well as ersatz Flash. Q could be a Green Lantern."

"Heh, now that you mention it, that would work..."

They continued their nerdy banter, escaping from one world of fantasy into another. At least they knew, how comics worked, Dragnia was still a mystery. Time passed, the sun setting slowly.

"...so we have Minby as Flash, Q and you as Green Lanterns, Snake is the goddamn Batman because he's sneaky and doesn't kill. Camilla's Miss Martian because shapeshifting, Ansem's the only male Star Sapphire, td's Static Shock, I'm probably Solomon Grundy because he's the only Undead we can think of. Now the three R's, Requiem, Relmitos and Raya. Any idea what Raya could be?"

Roy hesitated, lowering his voice. "Wonder Woman...", followed by a deep sigh.

Just as Fed opened his mouth to comment, they heard an overjoyed cry from the very top of the bow. Sah was standing there with bare chest, arms spread out, shouting one of the most overdone lines of cinematic history.

"I'M THE KING OF THE WORLD!!! WOOHOOHOHOOOOO!!!"

"That's it, this world is officially fucked now. Civilization was fun while it lasted, but this is the point it just rolled over and died... Do you agree, that Sahrimnir just volunteered for Aquaman, Red Mage?"

"I think he did, Black Mage. Let's tell him about his luck."

Both men nodded at each other, surpressing smiles. They sneaked up on their unsuspecting target, who was blissfully unaware of everything going on around him, mesmerized by the dancing waves. In a surprisingly quick movement, they grabbed him around the chest and legs, lifting him up(mostly done by the unnatural strength of the Lich), head over the rail.

Fed shouted over the noise of the splashing water.

"We don't do this because of your stripping, we just want to protect this world from anything Titanic, Lord knows Earth suffered enough of it."

"Eh, Fed."

"What is it, I'm in the middle of something."

"Just turn around for a sec."

"Oh well, if you stop...oh."

Wonder Woman herself watched them from a few steps away, eyebrow raised in a questioning manner, trying to hide a smile herself. Everybody must have heard the Swede's cry.

"...so which one of you is Jack and which is Rose?", she inquired, barely holding the laughter back. Sah himself hadn't said anything, he was still too confused about what the hell was going on.

"Well, uhm, you see...Jackihmnir slipped and was about to fall over and...uhm..." "...we caught him before he could seriously injure himself because we are good friends and would never ever throw him overboard, right?"

They put Sah gently back down on the deck, patting him on the shoulder. "You should really be more careful, friend, ships are dangerous places!" Fed gave his best seriousface.

"Do I hear the ring for supper chiming back there? I am so hungry out of the sudden, let's go have a look?"

"Jolly good idea, a cup of tea and some warm soup is what I need right now, lead the way!"

Without awaiting any response, they darted off to the opposite end of the boat, escaping Raya's sight, who chuckled to herself. A moment later, Sah joined her, looking quite puzzled.

"What the..."

Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread - Page 17 Empty Re: Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread

Post  Relmitos on Sun Sep 16, 2012 1:46 pm

Upon reaching the village Relmitos takes a look around the docks. All of the sailors working diligently for the numerous vessels, making sure they were well maintained and stocked with provisions, and generally going about their daily jobs. Numerous fishermen unloading their large hauls. Their trip had proved fruitful as they had brought in massive crates full of fish.

Hearing the end of conversation between Raya, Quaetam, and Arden, Relmitos catches Raya before she can wander off, with an inquiry in mind.
“Out of curiosity, why do you hate the idea of going on a boat so much?”

Raya pauses for a few seconds before responding. “It’s…I really, really don’t like boats. They’re weird and unnatural. Knowing there’s only a plank of wood between you and a watery grave. There’s thousands of feet of water beneath you and you’re bouncing around on this little dingy that one big wave could smash to pieces. And all those bloody things that live in the ocean. It’s bad enough at home with jellyfish and man o’ wars, here they’ve probably got giant serpents and krakens and all sorts of horrors. You ever seen a dragonfish? Now imagine one of them fifty feet long and infused with magic. Ho-ly shiiiiit, no thank you.” Relmitos smirks at her. “Raya?” “Yes?” “Never, ever, go swimming to Australia.” Raya sneers at him. “I’ll keep that in mind.”

Relmitos continues on. "You should be thankful, you know. We have an actual boat, it could be worse, for you anyway. Back home in Louisiana? There's those airboats. You think an actual ship is bad, go ride one of those things. Or maybe even a pireaux, I think you'd like those." Raya has a quizzicle look on her face. "Airboats? You mean like zeppelins?" Relmitos just stares at her with a blank expression, clearly unimpressed. Raya continues in her confusion "Actual zeppelins? Are you serious?" Fed chimes in from behind with a grin. "Oh the humanity." Relmitos shrugs. "An airboat isn't a zeppelin, heh. To get an airboat, imagine a motor boat. Replace the motor with a giant fan, and give the boat itself a smaller frame. You then have yourself an airboat."

Remembering Raya's small quip about possibly advancing with some kind of magic, he continues. "As for magical methods? Well, we lack a Shaman, so no Water Walking. We've no Death Knight either, so no Path of Frost. Boat it is!"

Relmitos turns around and wanders off, lost in thought.
This place reminds me of home, really. Being along a body of water of some sort. Makes the air humid, carries a certain scent with it. I think, anyways.

((Necromancing this shit, you know, just to bring it back to attention))

"The first thing I'm doing when I get back home," Camilla muttered to herself, facepalming as she recalled her earlier behaviour, "is buying a copy of How To Win Friends And Influence People. And anger management tapes."

Slumping against the side of the boat, the shapeshifter sighed as she stared down at the water, one hand draped over the rail down towards the water. She had nothing against water and boats, in fact, she kind of liked them - as long as she wasn't getting in to the water. It wasn't nearly hot enough to warrant that. Not to mention all her experience with boats had been in the Brisbane River and Sydney Harbour, and the former, especially, was not somewhere you wanted to fall out of a boat in to. The water here was much clearer. Not that it was exactly clear, it just wasn't...well, brown and essentially opaque. Water, however, was no real problem. Having grown up in Australia, she'd grown up swimming, and while she wasn't necessarily a good swimmer, she could certainly keep herself alive in water. Not, she hoped, that that would be a problem. And hey, at least it wasn't heights. If there was one thing that really, really terrified her, it was heights. Even crossing a bridge left her a little shaky. And never get her started on stepladders, or just general shaky steps in workplace environments, like she'd had to use in her office job...

Thinking about home made her a little misty eyed. She hoped, as usual, that Weldar was okay, probably sitting at home on his computer playing The Binding Of Isaac or something. She hoped her family was alright. She missed her mum, even her sisters.

She needed to bring herself back to the task at hand, but seeing her reflection in the waves reminded her of who she was. Shuddering, she tore her eyes away and brought herself up to a proper standing position, arching her back as she lifted her arms up to stretch. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Fed and Roy holding Sah over the rail. Bringing her hand to her mouth, Camilla chuckled as she watched the ensuing scene, darting off to join Fed and Roy as they headed back inside.

"Now, now, if I could get away with throwing anyone overboard, I would've thrown the lot of you to the sharks within 5 minutes of this trip," she muttered darkly, putting on a bright and innocent smile.

Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread - Page 17 Empty Re: Dark Before The Dawn- RP thread

Post  TD260 on Sun Oct 07, 2012 5:24 pm

TD stood on deck, one arm grasping the rail, the other over his eyes as he gazed out to sea. He liked sailing. He really did. He liked being out on the water and seeing the sunlight glint off of the waves as they danced when the wind blew. He liked the spray the waves made when the boat crashed through them.
Turning his head, he looked at the lower deck. He did not like, however, the prospect of being stuck on this boat for an extended period of time, with an emotional powder keg sitting in the middle of the group- not to mention the grief that may or may not be lurking under the surface of the fellow forumites, waiting to crop up.

He watched as Sah pulled some shenanigans with Avalanche and Fedaykin, he smiled, then saw Camilla standing behind them, farther down on the deck. For a split second, he saw a dark look on her face, replaced in a flash by a smile that was altogether too happy in contrast to be real. He sighed, then turned back to the ocean. The wind off the sea blew around his face, and he breathed deeply.

The smell of the water is rather refreshing... At least, it is right now. I've got a feeling that it's going to get old really fast...

Why would you grow tired of the smell of the sea?

Aurora's voice sounded in his mind, as it usually does when he makes a mental comment unguarded.

TD shook his head.

It's because... Eh. Not sure how to describe it. I like change. Humans like change. Or, at least, we like the illusion that we have the option for change. Being stuck at sea for an indefinite amount of time is like being tied down when there's so much more to do- so much more to see. I know it's for our quest, but it's one of those really long unskippable cutscenes that you really just don't want to watch sometimes.

Unskipp... what? Cut who?

TD gave a quick smile.

nevermind. But you see my point?

I don't see it, actually. There's beauty to be seen there. It doesn't go away, and it's a new view every moment- I don't see how you can grow tired of something as wonderful as this- something constantly changing, and yet constantly beautiful. How you could grow tired of it, or feel trapped by it, doesn't make any sense to me.

TD paused for a moment, looking out to sea. He then shrugged, and gave another smile.

I... I have to thank you for that, Aurora. It's a rather refreshing perspective. It's given me a different opinion of our journey.

You think we're going to have a great time?

TD again paused, and closed his eyes.

I didn't say that... there's too much tension. Too much heat. The pot's going to boil over soon, and I don't know how much pressure will be released.

With that, he walked to the edge of the deck, jumped down and opened the door to the lower quarters.

I'd better go find what room i'm staying in. Probably should organize it a bit. Or something.

Heading down to the lower quarters after poking fun at the scene that had just transpired (she had known it would only be a matter of time before someone re-enacted Titanic - she only hoped that at least Sah kept his shirt on, and that their boat trip didn't end up like the climax of that story. She didn't feel like drowning), Camilla found herself wandering around between cabins, enjoying the gentle rocking motions of the boat as it passed through the water. It was a good thing she didn't get motion sickness, she thought grimly to herself.

Wandering around, she came across TD, by himself. A smirk crossing her face, she quickly shielded her eyes. "Oh shit," she started. "We're on a boat, and if our eyes meet, we have to have a Pokemon battle." She lowered her hand to her mouth, hiding it as she chuckled. "I don't know about you but I don't have any Pokemon with me."

TD looked up, and gave a small half-smile, then stretched out one arm to his side.

"Shorts are comfy and easy to wear!"

He stood like that for a moment, then let his hand fall, shaking his head.

"Unfortunately, I'm fresh out of pokemon. Though, technically, I suppose we could just battle each other. I mean, you're a ditto and i'm like an ampharos or something, but I don't think that the group dynamic could handle much more in-fighting... Even if it's just a trainer battle."

Camilla smiled for a moment, then glowered.

"Oh god, we're going to have to put up with them on the ship until we reach land again. The ship is only so big!"

TD frowned.

"I seriously hope none of their cabins are near each other. Otherwise, things are going to get problematic."

Camilla nodded.

"Yeah... The last thing we need are more morning arguments."

TD nodded in agreement, then looked around at the ship.

"I do wish I knew where the rooms are though. I spent the last 10 minutes walking around, and all I got was flour in my face and a frying pan to the head."

Camilla cackled at that last remark. "So, you found the Demopan then. Should've offered him a Stout Shako for 2 refined." She looked more sympathetic as she answered "...I hope you're alright. Not too hurt, are you?" TD shook his head - they were champions, what was a hit on the head with a frying pan when there were far more dangerous things at play?

"I had hoped..." she began, sadly, "that when we all met up it would be a pleasant experience. We could all have fun, go out drinking, play video games, have a good time. I don't like that we've all been fighting. I probably made it worse today," she added, hanging her head. "I just wanted everyone to stop fighting, and I guess I was being bossy when it wasn't my place to do so. I figured I could step up and try to set things right. That's not what I'm meant for. I feel like I'm dead weight on this team and I'm not important to anything, all I managed to do was get Weldar killed and everyone seriously injured."

She sighed, and slumped against the wall. She'd probably weirded the poor guy out with her quick change in mood. Moodswings happened so easily to her that she barely noticed when they did. "But that's not important. We should find our cabins. And hey," she added, putting on a smile as she pulled out a pair of shades from her small bag. "We're on a boat. Fuck land, we're on a boat, motherfuckers!"

She's really beating herself up over this... I want to cheer her up, but seeing as she just swung into a better mood, maybe I'll bring it up later.

TD cracked a smile.

"Hey, toss me a pair of those shades?"

Camilla reaches into her bag and pulls out another pair of sunglasses. TD takes his normal glasses off and puts the shades on.

"Fuck trees, I climb riggings, motherfucker!"

Camilla paused for a moment.

"Riggings?" She asked.

TD shrugged.

"We're on a medieval boat, I don't think they have buoys. "

Camilla shrugged.

"Good point."

She clears her throat, and continues.

A good ol' fashioned singalong to a crude song, sounded like sailing to Camilla alright. Putting on a brighter smile, she attempted to throw some gang signs as she made some silly poses and kept singing.

"I'm on the deck, with my boys motherfucker, this boat...uh...the waves crashin' make noise motherfucker!" She looked a tad embarassed, hiding her cheeks behind a hand.

"This is incredibly silly, isn't it?" She grinned, however, almost cat-like. "Fun, though."

TD smirked.

"I've made a life out of looking stupid by doing things I thought were fun. At least now we're not alone."

He paused for a moment, then nodded.

"Er, HEY MA IF YOU COULD SEE ME NOW. ARMS SPREAD WIDE OFF THE STARBOARD BOW. GONNA... wait... hang on a sec..."

TD put his arms down, looked at the ship, walked across the deck to the opposite side of the ship, and lifted his arms again.

"There we go."

"ARMS SPREAD WIDE OF THE STARBOARD BOW. GONNA FLY THIS BOAT TO THE MOON SOMEHOW. LIKE KEVIN GARNETT, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE."

Camilla chimed in with the next lyric.

"Never thought i'd be on a boat. It's a big blue watery road. Poseidon, look at meeeeee, oooh..."

TD resumed singing, completing the verse.

"Never thought i'd see the daaaay, when a big boat's coming my waaay. Believe me when I saaaaaay, Ansem fucked a mermaiiiid..."

Camilla fought to retain some semblance of composure as they sang, but TD's last line about Ansem pushed her over the edge. "Pfft...ha..." and without warning she fell to the ground, clutching her stomach as she lost control. Laughing heartily, she slapped her leg with her free hand. "Oh my god," she spluttered. "That's brilliant, that is." Taking a few deep breaths, she calmed down and stretched her legs out across the aisle, looking up at the roof as she gave a couple of small laughs, wiping away the moisture at the corner of her eyes.

"Now this, this is what I was hoping for when we all met up." She cocked an eyebrow at TD. "You're a clever man, you know. I'm glad I got to meet you, you know, before our inevitable massacre at the hands of the forces of evil. Not that that's a guarantee, of course." She laughed, darkly. "Besides, we've got brilliant leadership and the paragon of teamwork at our disposal, right?"

TD smiled and looked away, unaccustomed to the compliments.

"I'm glad that I get to meet you in person as well. And who knows? Maybe we'll get lucky and get to grind our asses off on a bunch of low level enemies. By the time we reach the elite four, we'd be so overleveled they won't stand a chance."

Camilla arches an eyebrow at that, and TD shrugs.

"I can't wish for an anticlimactic boss battle once in my life? Besides, something tells me that as rocky as the social interactions are right now, once we start fighting things again we're going to be too busy protecting our asses to give two shits about drama. At least, I hope so. If someone dies because of fucking DRAMA I SWEAR TO GOD..."

TD stopped, took a deep breath and unclenched his fist.

"Never mind. Point is, I think we can all get through this. I really do. It'll be hard, and we won't get through without a few scars... but I think that we can do this. I mean, hell. We wouldn't be here if we didn't have the potential for it."

TD shrugged again, then looked down at Camilla.

"Come on. Let's go and hang out with someone that isn't angsting too bad."
